Amnesia. First time i yelled out loud when playing a game, because i got surprised when these zombie things hide behind doors…
Playing it now, and it is unbelievable. I don’t know what it is about the Stalker games that make them so immersive, but it’s awesome. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve become so involved in the game that when I hear a noise outside in real life, I turn to look in the game as well. No other game does that.
It’s weird though - none of the Stalker games are perfect, but there are things from all of them that I like. Would be good to combine them all.
Yeah, I’d say that’s my only realy complaint about the stalker series - the terrible translations and voice work. I wouldn’t mind it if it was all in Russian as long as it had subtitles, but they don’t even do the whole game. Like we have no idea what all the NPCs say to eachother round campfires etc.
Battlefield 2.
Possibly the closest thing you can get to enlisting in the military without enlisting in the military and developing horrible psychological trauma
Metal Gear Solid
Half Life
Amnesia
Silent Hill
Games I wish would never end…
Anyone here play stalker without the Complete mods? I got CoP a while back, but only just started to play it because the complete mod was released. They’re essential imho
I wouldn’t say they’re essential, really. I have a lot of fun without them, but they definitely improve the experience for me.
I do. It’s usually anecdotes and general reflections/bitching about life in the zone. What makes it even more brilliant is that the anecdotes can be both funny and not funny.
You can live without them, but you’re better off with them. I’ve finished my first SHOC playthrough without it.
I had my own quirks with the mod itself, like disabling head-bobbing and no npc weapon tossing upon death.
Had to manually enable them back. Other than that and the fact that my lappy likes to slowdown at times (on max settings sans MSAA) in CS, the mod is damn good.
Me. I’m about to enter red forest.
It also strikes me how much more ruble I spend in CS compared to SHoC.
I used to accumulate more than 400k in SHoC. In CS, I spend tonnes on upgrades and ammo.
I like the odd Russian phrases in the Stalker games that have no translations. I was kind of sad that there wasn’t as much Russian thrown in in CoP as compared to SoC.
What makes it shine is that you can get some traces of Ukrainian here and there. Yeah, they speak Russian, but there is an occasional word of Ukrainian origin slipping through from time to time. Especially with bandits (bandits use a lot characteristic thieves’ jargon in their speech, btw). And the accent is generally quite ukranian (except from high ranked NPCs), too.Very authentic, considering…
That’s cool. I at first thought they were speaking Ukrainian until I heard otherwise because it takes place in the Ukraine and is made by a Ukrainian company.
Majority of Ukrainian population speaks or at least knows Russian. The languages are nearly identical, though Ukrainian is funny as hell to anyone who speaks Russian.
I find the russian accents hilarious so its a worthwhile compromise. Also it annoys me in SoC when they try to give game relevant information in Russian, and I end up having no idea whats going on. It certainly is a flawed masterpiece.
Didn’t know any of this. Useful to know.
Red Forest is awesome. Went in at dusk and spent the whole night trying to find my way out. Thought I went in there well prepared, finally got out with virtually just pistol ammo left. Probably the most lengthy white-knuckled gaming experiences I’ve had.
I was going artifact hunting in Jupiter in CoP, died in an anomaly, and quickloaded to find that I had last saved over an hour ago.
Fuck my life. I’d just gotten one of the best artifact scanners, a new helmet, finished like 3 quests, and now I get to do it all over.
A good STALKER player would know that w should be bound to forward and quick save.
I’d gotten rather immersed and completely forgot. I am now contemplating suicide.
I’ve had worse, specifically loosing about five hours of Morrowind gameplay. But yeah, I wish STALKER had better autosave, because as is you either get unimmersed by hammering F6 or loose half your game.
I skimmed past very quickly. The only nuisance was that fucking psy-dog.
Wasted a quarter of my VSS ammo trying to hit it from 100 meters.
I hate engaging them and then losing track of the real ones in the ocean of replicas.
you know whats even more immersion breaking? dying…your not supposed to die in stalker…who needs quicksave? :retard:
