G-man

Adrian Shepard never existed. Never will, unless Valve says so.

Gearbox invented Adrian Shepard, the surname Calhoun, the X race and OTIS. (the fat security guard)

Valve seemed to think Calhoun was a sexy name for their generic security guard character in Half-Life 2.

Yes, they seeemed to think Calhoun was a sexy surname for their generic security guard character in Half Life 2. But GEARBOX said it first.

Probably because they were given guidance from Valve. From one of the writers, IIRC. Valve had probably thought about turning Barney into an individual character at that point.

G-man is neither allie nor enemy. He is neutral. HE PROVIDED BLACK MESA WITH THE CRYSTAL THAT DOOMED EVERYONE. He told Eli Vance to prepare for unforseen consequences and…BOOM! black mesa incident! He is seen talking to Cubbage and a rebel. No doubt telling them to prepare for shit to happen! Yet Dr Breen tells you that Gordon is open to the highest bidder indicating he has had some interaction with G-man.

Yeah, we know

Shame we don’t have the old thread because I remember doing a whole series of posts on the subject. Either way I’m happy to add some new ideas

Has anyone realised how people who are opposed to Gman always fall victim to injury or even death? I mean we know Eli had his concerns about him and may have been able to tell us more about Gman, had he not suddenly been killed off. The same is similar with Black Mesa. Think about it. Gman is seen arguing with one of the research scientists, and obviously the Xen crystal was delivered for a reason. Further more in OF he is seen re-activating the bomb. To me Gman seems to be like a mercenary, trusting no-one and working for the highest bidder. But I’d definitely say that his “priorities” have changed; he seems more able to go against the wishes of his said employers and even to bring in some personal issues into the situation if necessary. A lot to think about.

… when quelling them, hmm?

it’s kind of obvious that people who know about him die , if they didn’t , we’d already know what and who he is xD

^

That doesn’t stand to reason, Gordon is perfectly fine. :stuck_out_tongue:

The vortigaunts know him, went against him, and are perfectly well.

Well… maybe 2 or 3 of them died.

That’s not necessarily true either. It’s quite possible, and was hinted at ( by G-Man so therefore dubious) that it was the Vort’s who “hired” the G-Man’s services in order to be freed from Nihilanth.

I find this dubious mainly because of the round about way with which G-Man used a backwater world (dimension?) nee, Earth in order to do so, and in so doing placed them directly in the path of their original oppressors, The Combine.

I find it more likely that the G-Man has been playing The Combine off against Nihilanth for some time (I won’t go into it now, but I suspect Nihilanth used the G-Man’s services to escape The Combine), then, of course, the Combine use G-Man (who uses Gordon) to destroy Nihilanth which in turn opens the way into a previously untapped universe full of resources for the Combine Empire to reap from.

Not that I truly think this theory is correct, I just think it’s an interesting web of deceit given the parties we know that are involved. I sure look forward to learning of the other Organisations involved that are in the position to hire the G-Man’s services.

I definitely like how the G-Man seems to apply the Infinite Regress method insofar as Misinformation tactics are concerned. Very CIA.

O.o damn man thats some plausible shit right there lol… o and about everyone that “knows about g-man dies” that seems to be true and not to be true in some ways… gordon knows about him and is alive yes… but that could also be, anyone that tells others about him die think about it, eli was about to tell you about g-man, dead breen was going to tell you something about him probably, dead, the onyl reason gordons not dead is cause hes mute and cant tell alyx

i think that he meant " all those who know what gman is are dead " not who he is , also , gordon doesn’t know who or what he is , he just knows he is

true, but that also follows under ppl telling others about him gordon cant tell people about him cause he just dosent know

breen and eli did know but they also were about to tell… and also just thought of something it seems to be telling gordon about him not other ppl

Are you saying the G-man fears Gordon? :freeman:

EVERYONE fears Gordon. :freeman: :freeman:

Strangely the Vort’s don’t, you’d think there would have been at least moment where if Gordon appeared on a scene with humans mixed with Vort’s (I think the ideal would have been Odessa’s briefing room) with the crowbar armed there would have been a round of gasping with one of the humans approaching Gordon leaning in to whisper how having the crowbar armed in the presence of the Vort’s is an incredible faux pas.

BoT

yes now that you mentioned , since you can’t ask , you can’t ask cubbige [xD] , but he knows gman and “didn’t say nothing” about gman :-?

Yes if Gordon learns to much about him, he may be the only to kill/stop him

like i said G-Man dosent want gordon learning to much about him

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
