G-man

Well, I’m new here, but I figured I might as well post my own theory.

The Gman, as some others think, is only utilizing a human form. I believe that his true form is something… completely inconprehensible. Think Lovecraftian god, if you’re familer with them. His motivation is obviously for whatever his employers have.

As for the Vort vs Gman issue, it’s evidently negative for Gordon to be under the Gman’s thumb, so to speak. The Vorts know this, and must have found some way to locate the pocket dimension the Gman was keeping Gordon in.

vorts ware against you , gman , not really… , the gmandoesn’t seem evil to me…

So… You’ve played the Half-Life games? Or is that a horrible assumption on my part?

Just like how I think the Resistance is evil.

@Raptor: I think very few here believe the G-Man is human.
The influence of the G-Man is not necesserily bad. The Vorts had maybe another reason to remove Gordon. The G-Man was maybe satisfied to have blown up the citadel and killed Breen. That was his mission for Gordon. But the Vorts wanted him to continue the war against the Combine, because they think he is still required.

If Gman was a “good guy” or whatever, then why the whole mysterious facade? Why the whole “Gordon is mine” mentality?

Maybe Gordon is essential? Certainly the G-Man has some knowledge we don’t posses and on its base he makes decisions that are right even if we cannot understand them. He does several things that are good for us:

  • he saves us from the seven hour war
  • he puts us into city 17 when our hour has come again (when the resistance gained tools, technologies and so on to be ready for the “revolution”)
  • he saves us from the explosion of the citadel
  • he warns Eli
  • he shows at least some care, he realizes some of our emotions

This might be for his own reasons, but it shows he is against the Combine.

Why not? They are aliens from an alternate dimension, and they have shown that they have the power to take him anyway when they put their minds to it, why could they not have bid on gordon? Breen knew about the auction, the resistance (izzy, eli, alyx and barney) seemed to know he was coming? While I agree that there is a larger picture with unseen characters like the g-mans employers that has not been written yet, what has been written(and seen) indicates that breen, cubbage, eli, the vorts and gordon (and possibly kliener and magnusson) are all well aware of the g-man and his operation to some degree. He only seems to be a big mystery to gordon(the player). The g-man plays by certain rules, the vorts broke those rules and took gordon away. The g-man was then forced to use his plan b, manipulating gordon through his bond (Side kick, romance, vortessence ect.) with alyx. This is why I think the g-man is in contact with the combine. How else would he be able to warn eli?

Hi,i’ve read through the thread, many interesting theories.
Off:When i saw the lost episode with Richard,i was like WTF that’s the gman
On:
Here’s my theory:

The vorts were freed unintentionaly mostly.Gman could be an alien who’s world/planet/universe was enslaved by the combine. The combine had means of transportation to XEN.They learn about the existence of our universe when scientist started to enter XEN,and this way they might also be aware of human’s means of teleportation wich was somewhat better than theirs. Also XEN was probably controled by the Nihilath who might as well be a survivor of the combine asimilation,he escaped in to XEN,enslaved the local population and used it to protect XEN from the combine threat.
The combine used gman’s unique(maybe unique, maybe there might be others like him) as a rock to hit 2 birds.
1.Removing Nihilanth from the way.
2.Breaching into earth’s dimension.

At the end of hl1 gman states the boder world xen is in OUR control for the time being, thanks to you…
While the combine did not exist in hl1,it is still canon and hypotesis can be made that OUR refered to the combine.
Afther the Nihilanth’s demise, the portal storm allowed the combine to enter Earth’s dimension.Gman, could from the very begining be acting in his own intrests, knowing that the combine have to way to leave a dimension after entering it,used earth as a trap for the combine advisors.
On earth gman acted after his own will, and he offered gordon’s services to the vorts/ressistance.After the events of hl2 he considered that humans were in no longer need of Gordon’s services. That’s when the vorts released gordon, this being like a payback since Gordon liberated them.By the course of gordon’s actions gman maybe realised Goron’s great potential againts the combine so that’s why he no longer tried to catch gordon in statis.

I know long post, and a lot of mistakes, sorry my english is not perfect

you people have to take the fact that there are meny people in real life who know and posses technology that you dunno about, and yes , there are superior people , AFAIK , g-man = aperture invention or shizzez like that , and why would he bee evil ? , he just does what’s best for him and for his client , gordon, he doesn’t kill anyoune do nothing …

Because, it doesn’t make sense that they would free Gordon from G-Man’s control before what everyone assumes to be the terms of the contract have been fulfilled. The Combine is not yet completely defeated nor driven from Earth.

Further, the apparent concern the party that has been hiring the G-Man is over the Combine’s acquisition of Portal technology, be it in the form of Nihilanth or the Vance/Kleiner teleporter that Mossman was stealing for Breen.

G-Man also pulled Gordon as soon as the one man (Breen) who was going to deliver the portal technology information to the Combine Overworld, it was then that Gordon’s mission under the G-Man was complete, in no way shape or form was it about freeing the Vortigaunts or Humans, that was just a fringe benefit of the job and it’s apparent that the G-Man has been underestimating the Vortigaunts for some time now.

iKy, more coherent please.

We as of yet do not know exactly what was in the contract for hiring gordon. It could be the citadel getting nuked, It could be the death of breen, it could also be the overall disruption of the combine or the uprising that people seemed to be waiting for. Until we know, we can’t just assume the rebels got gordon for the total duration of the rebellion. Large building contracts are broken up into smaller pieces to spread among specialized sub contractors. Also, if the contract was merely just the destruction of the citadel and no mention of the safety of the human inhabitants, it could be the reason the vorts stole gordon, but I digress from my earlier speculation.
Gordon’s success and his aptitude for ass kicking seemed to me to be too much to give up. But the g-man had a backup plan, Alyx, hence the “We’ll see about that.” This in no way jives with the possibility of the g-man’s employers not wanting the combine to have portal technology. If he is powerful enough to removed eli and alyx from BM, he should have been able to protect eli in white forest. He let gordon travel to white forest and protect the base from the combine, but the price he exacted from them keeping gordon in the vorts/rebels employ after the contract has expired was the life of eli. I see what you mean about dropping gordon off to city 17 right as the combine were about to develop site to site teleport tech. It could be the g-man’s employers or it could have been the vorts/resistance. Also, with eli’s death comes the death of the main voice advocating for the destruction of the borealis. Izzy and Arne seem to want to get access to the boat and what is on it. It seems to me that, from a secret antagonist perspective, it would be foolish to allow the death of the main proponent of their cause. Thats why I think the “employers” he speaks of have very little in the way of an agenda aside from getting the highest bid. From Whoever. Just a little speculating.

^ /agree i thinking the same that when Gordon destroyed the citidel was the contract and it weakened the combine that were already on the earth. G-man then trys to stasis you only to be stopped by vorts in EP1 and as i think interloper said a few pages ago he posted a vid of Ep1 where alyx says to eli “we found gordon” then eli says “what?! i dont believe it” because… and this is my opinion and im probably wrong as hell for reasons i dont know yet but interloper will jump right on it… that because eli knew about g-man and possibly the “contract” that because alyx found gordon the contract was breached and something was going to happen because of it

Off topic a second:

What do u mean?, is it like a joke cause i looked up l4d2 and the graphics look awesome but the game looks fake-ish

No. It’s because everybody wants Ep3 rather than a sequel to L4D.

o… well im a fan of both games so if buying l4d2 will increase the quality or gameplay of Ep3 i say go for it + it looks kinda fun and l4d1 was awesome and besides l4d was a kinda short game so l4d2 is probably ganna be the same… short and sweet

edit: btw i see Dias had a boycott for l4d2 thing… maby valve needs the money for ep 3 or something if you boycott the game valve might go bankrupt and never release ep3 O.o (btw im kinda over exsadurating but still the same priciple)

Edit again: sry for going off topic again -.-

Short? Isn’t it mainly a multiplayer??

Theres only so many maps and when you play versus mode (probably the most fun) you only get 2 campaign modes to play each with 5 levels that are well… reletively short

Ohh. I haven’t jumped onto the L4D wagon yet, maybe never sadly.

After Ep3 is over, I hope Gman drops a bombshell on us or reveals a revelation of what’s to come - rather than just putting Gordon back into stasis.

Definatly no more stasis I think, weve seen an unbroken chain of action since the start of Halflife 2. i think we’ll se a bomshell, but it will not answer a dam thing only more question maybe g mans employers are the ultimate enemy not the combine?

Right! U just cannot think of a bigger enemy than the Combine though. Maybe another militarized race, but that would just be sloppy.
