I doubt that Breen expected Resonance Cascade to happen, nor had any major involvement in it. Remember that it was G-Man who gave the sample to Eli which started it and G-man is clearly not on the Combine pay-check as he had no problem with unleashing Gordon on them.

As for the G-Man, it is very possible that events on Earth are of little interest to him, serve him as a test-ground for his new toy - Gordon. Also he is able to manipulate with time-space continuum, though he only observers events around him.

I never said he expected it to happen, hence the word ‘duped’. He did however make sure the test went ahead and even gave specific instructions about it himself, so yes, he did have relatively major involvement.

I seriously doubt the only reason the G-man is interested in earth is to ‘test out his new toy’.

It’s interesting how people are speculating on a story which hasn’t even been written. Valve didn’t create some huge secret back story when they made HL1 and HL2, they just went with it. I doubt even they know who the G-Man is or who he’s working for.
