Fuckin' special permission

So I’m tryin’ to replace a file by another but Vista says that I need a “special permission” to do it. So I went into C:/Users/Administrator, clicked on Proprieties/Security/Advanced/Edit/Permission/Edit and cheked the little box sayin’ “Include inheritable permission” as it was told on a few websites I found on Google. But still I don’t have those “retarded permissions”.

What do I do?

Boot up into a CLI and see if you can replace the file that way.

Could you tell me what I must type in?

The files I want to move are in C:\Users\Antoine\Desktop\Full Instal GTAIV\Cerise and I want to move them in D.:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV

I’ll let you guess what the files are.

Right click the file.

Click on Properties.

Untick the box that says Archive.

:3

What box?

Now, this probably won’t work from just command prompt, you’ll have to boot your system into a command line interface, possibly from your windows install disc, or a dos boot disc (you can download these from random sites)

Did you try restarting? I’ve had that problem fixed a couple times just by rebooting.

Lol

Does your PC have an Administrator login still?

I tried to do it on the Admin account but it seems like I can’t have full control on my computer.

Edit: Anyway thank you everybody! I just sorted out the problem. It seems like the problem was AVG. It kinda blocked the file from being moved because it detected it as a threat. So I added the file to the “exceptions” and I could do whatever I wanted with it.

Protip: The best Anti-virus ever made is free.

Common sense.

Common sense rocks, I use sysinternals autoruns and process explorer.

Also, vista sucks.

And is named…?

you could try taking ownership of the folder.

I’ll try finding the script for you. Bear with me.

Edit: Try THIS

Edit 2: Beaten to it again

He said it. Common sense.

Suggestive: he fixed the problem already :stuck_out_tongue:

Just testing

“Hey, I have a problem. I can’t run Minesweeper. This maybe due to my AVG antivirus that is blocking every fucking file and there is no fucking way to stop it, I overclock my computer every 2 hours, I’ve downloaded lots of songs trough LimeWire which came up to be trojans. Also, I’m using Windows Vis…”

Ah my bad. I misread it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, turn off all the permission stuff on Vista. This is Vista’s main fault, so after these are off its fine. (Except the occasional crash, but hey you can’t have everything.)

As soon as you turn off UAC, vista is fine TBH. Your post is a pretty accurate representation of all my mac friends when they try to use windows.

Turning off the UAC is the first thing I do whenever I get on a computer with Vista on.

I’m glad i read this thread. First thing I will do when I get my new pc (which has windows vista on it) is turn UAC off.
