Thief has gone GOLD and releases later this month, and a new trailer. The article refers to the PS3-PS4 release, but it mirrors the PC release.

Sweet. I’ve never played Thief but I’m seriously considering this game, seems like my sort of thing.

I’d suggest playing the first two games before you make any decisions. This game seriously looks mediocre in every sense of the word. Though I can’t make you.

Which is the best, and is it on Steam?

I’d play them in order, although the second is better in my opinion. Different people have different as their favorite. And yeah, they’re both on Steam. Make sure to install Tfix with the first game and TafferPatcher for the second game.

I’d say the second is the best also. So nostalgic too.

^ Pyro, and others, should consider installing this newly released Thief 1 and Thief 2 HD textures mod:

Game leaked for the PS3. There are some streams up. Game doesn’t seem to be following HR in that the stuff we see is bad but the actual game is at least decent. Game looks just as bad as the stuff we’ve seen up till now.

Define “bad stuff”

Linear, cinematic, etc. AI looks pretty poor too.

Ok, maybe you misunderstood. I said: explain what’s so bad about the new Thief?

j/k lol

Haven’t people been whining about how it’s too linear and hand-holdy compared to the original games?

I’ve seen its linearity is more similar to that of HR, and the hand holding can be reduced via options

There are literally loading screens like every few minutes. You’ll have a load screen, then a cutscene, then another load screen, etc. And I’m going to keep saying it that it doesn’t look like turning the stuff off will help any because the game doesn’t do a good job of relating where you’re supposed to go without the quest marker.

Also the guard dialogue is incredibly repetitive, and so are the combat sounds. Swinging the blackjack has Garrett do the same grunting noise every swing and the same with the guards. There was even one part where you were watching people talk and do things through a hole in the wall and their animation just froze at one point with them looking at each other and didn’t do anything after that. And the streamer hid in a closet after alerting the guards and the guards just stood there outside the closet looking at him. They looked like they were standing in the exact same spot too, so they looked like one guard. And again, the AI, where you’ll open a door/go through a revolving bookshelf without a guard a foot away reacting to it.

This is the 360 version I’m watching too, and they seriously messed up with the graphics. Most of the dynamic shadows are horribly pixelated, after a loading screen there’s awful pop in, and you can see textures loading in while playing.

Maybe some of this will be fixed with a day one patch but I don’t think all of it will be fixed. But hey, someone gave me a code for the game that came with their GPU so I’ll make sure to play it at release and see if any of this prerelease stuff stays true.

Last-gen versions are most likely an inferior representation of how the game is actually supposed to be. Next-gen/PC versions gotta be how the game was meant to be played.

If they’re releasing on current gen they should still make it presentable.

So, next-gen is now current-gen. Huh.

Still need to get used to that. It’s like trying to remember what year it is after new years.
