FBI Closes Megaupload and arrests several of their employees

lol XD. I don’t believe this guy, the only reason I posted it is because it’s starting to pop up everywhere. It’s not possible for the government to do that for numerous reasons.

Even if it is possible, I lucked out, the only thing I’ve ever uploaded to a website like that (I think it was filefront, not even megaupload) was The Picard Song, and I never log in when I download, so :pirate:

I don’t even have an account there. I have downloaded some stuff from Megaupload but not very much. Last thing I did download was a few albums from a Basque rock group.

I don’t have an account there also I only pirate from other people’s IP address.

Thanks to whoever invented Wifi.

Thank you, I don’t have anything against teh joos myself. But I hear allot of people bash them quite a bit.

In all seriousness, big money is too big in politics. That is an obvious.

Oh and I didn’t lay out fema camps, bilderberg, plastic coffins, the gueen of england is a descendant from Egypt where aliens that look similar to us built the pyramids for fuel in their space craft and influenced culture around the world (Mayans, and other places.) Crop circles, Rosewell, Area 51, black helicopters, our government can tap our phones and monitor us whenever they want… Whoops! that last one was real. Cars can run of pure water etc…

So it begins:

Oh shit. We’re heading to a world where we have to buy other people’s goods.

More like you can’t share documents or your own personally made media.

More concerning a world were fear cripples the free flow of information. I don’t support piracy mind you but I worry what state the internet is heading.

One word torrents. Data can still travel freely, and .torrent files only contain the checksums and what not to gather the data, so there is no real way to get in trouble at all(at least not for sharing the .torrent file, stuff you share is another story), unless the government becomes smart(not happening anytime soon). TBH I always perfer torrents over regular downloads.

because filesharing is only used for illegal stuff right

Heh, as if any of you truly, honestly care about the legal users of those services.

The only reason you (as in pretty much everyone in this thread) keep mentioning the legal use of these services is so you can have a reason to hate the evil people trying to take away your free movies/music/games.

If legal filesharing is so important to you, there’s still a ton of alternatives that won’t be taken down due to the very fact that are less conventional to use as a means of mass sharing. I’m thinking about YouSendIt or personal FTP/Dropbox.

I mean, you may have a point, but that’s not the issue here. The mere fact that these sites CAN be used for bad does not allow the government to close them down altogether. That’s like banning the use of cars because they can cause injury when used improperly.

Yeah, maybe they were used predominantly for illegal means (even though they were also used by independent artists and the modding community to spread free merchandise products), but legally they have no business closing down the entire site. If they want to crack down on individual users, that’s totally fine.

No, the reason they took them down was because they condoned piracy. Apparently the government have emails to this effect. We shall see.

Well obviously they have enough proof to arrest them and terminate their business. Like I said before, they won’t just go and do that to anyone just for the sake of it. There’s a reason why it was only Megaupload and not some other site like Rapidshare, and “they did it to set an example” isn’t a valid explanation for this.

Several articles I’ve read claim that the owners of Megaupload caused $500,000,000 worth of damage to the media industry by actively dabbling in piracy. Kim “Dotcom” is also one of those power/money hungry people that somehow manages to accumulate a ton of money by doing fuck all, and wastes it all on retarded shit like the Gumball race. He was living in the most expensive house in New-Zealand and owned a luxury yacht, 5 Mercedesses, a Rolls Royce, a Maserati and a Lamborghini. He has also been convicted before for illegal trading and hacking. He claims to spend millions every day on private jets, luxury whores and VIP parties. Everything about this man and his activities smells fishy.

Megaupload didn’t get fucked because a fair chunk of users uploaded illegal files. Sucks to be you if you paid for that shit, but I call “good riddance” on this bust.
