Excluding Synths (which aren’t proper creatures) my top 3 are:

  1. Headcrabs, and awesome take on the parasite concept by Valve, can’t say I care much for their HL2 variations though.

  2. Barnacles. Nothing has made me more needlessly paranoid of ceilings and dangling cables. Not much of a threat in HL2, their hoarse breathing still scares the crap out of me in HL1.

  3. Bullsquids. They just look cool.

Favorites?

Bullsquid. Hands down THE coolest enemy in the Half-Life games.

Vortigaunt. They kick ass.

Headcrabs. They be the cute kind of kick ass. Like Gremlins…only before you feed them after midnight.

Vorts are unbelievably fun to kill with the shotgun secondary fire. They are definitely my favorite creature in the Half-Life series.

Houndeyes. Love the sounds they make. Cute little bastards.

Bullsquids. The jumping animation, when you shoot them, while they don’t see you, is friggin funny. They also seem to be very lead-tolerant in hard difficulty.

Gunships. Cool sounds. And being able to defy physics also earns a cookie.

The acidic antlions from ep2. I like how they run and hide and then explode when blasted with the shotgun.
