I really doubt that you’re surprised about that

also, Larry David

Of all time, I’d say George Carlin by quite a bit. Living, I’d probably go with Gottfried, though his impromptu remarks are usually a lot funnier than his routines. Izzard is also very good. I’m going to lose 10,000 internet points for this, but I find Bill Hicks overrated. He didn’t really have anything particularly interesting to say (unless you’re a 15-year-old angsty male), and he was only funny some of the time. There’s a balance to be struck with cynicism and humor, and Hicks usually fell on the wrong side.

For non-standup, I really like the Pythons, Mitchell and Webb and Pegg and Frost.

Carlin’s pretty good if he’s not on a self righteous rant.

I own pretty much every album he did on CD (well, I used to anyway). I liked it when I was 15. That’s what I was getting at. Maynard James Keenan seems to love him, and he’s also not a 15-year-old male, so clearly I wasn’t being literal there. Hicks had several hilarious routines, but he was terribly inconsistent.

And yes, I’ve mentioned on other forums that I not longer care for Hicks and had the flamewrath of the forum Gods shat down my throat, so pardon me for covering my ass a bit. :wink:

I think you’re taking the concept of staying “on topic” way too literally. This is a forum for discussion. You mentioned Hicks, I disagreed after naming several comedian I DO like, and after which I mentioned several more I DO like. I don’t see the issue. A lot of people like him, and I think that’s just fucking dandy. I’m sorry you feel so targeted, I was just pointing out that I don’t think he’s the cat’s pajamas.

Ironically, I’ve now gone off topic, so I should add that I also really loved Mitch Hedberg (RIP). He took the whole Steven Wright schtick and made it even better.

Yeah, those aren’t the best debating skills there gibbelin. And I’m pretty sure debates involve more than one person.

Oh yes, Mitch Hedberg is one of my favourites.

Sassy is now one of my favourite comedians.

[COLOR=‘Black’]j/k u suck

Yeah, and I’ll go one step further and decide that you’re just butthurt that not everyone loves Bill Hicks.

I never mentioned a debate. I don’t need to prove that that idiot was an awful comedian. That’s just how I feel.

Of all time, Carlin, especially when he’s on one of his rants. Followed closely by Lewis Black. Rounding up, Bill Maher’s stand up is great, followed by Chris Rock, and, for the silly-stupid, Jeff Dunham (only with the puppets; without the puppets, he’s completely lame).
