Explain your username

simply that, why did you choose your username?

I used to write a lot of science fiction back in high school, and the main character of one of my novels was this name. Cool American-born Russian dude… Anyway, some douche randomly dumped my backpack out of my locker and into the garbage pale last day of junior year, and I lost hundreds of pages of the story. I only salvaged the first 6 chapters, which I had just started to upload to fictionpress… They’re still there… It doesn’t make much sense without the rest of them, and I couldn’t find the… motivation to rewrite those hundreds of pages of my life… So I took up this name in memorial.

Oh… wrong name. I loved the madcat from mechwarrior. And 1030 holds significance for me. Been mine since 1909. Er, 1996. (1909 just rhymed too well)

I always forget which name I’m using, lol.

et tu, acade365?

Well, I like games and AWS are my initials so I put them together and this is what I got.

meh, it really uninteresting. academia is simply the nickname that my football team has got, acade its just a shortened version.

trance is epic.

I made it when I was younger. I needed a name to sign up on [GTAForums] with. This was back when I was new to the internet, and wanted to be as anonymous as possible. So I somehow coined “Mr. Someguy” and used that. Been using it ever since.

It’s much better than my alternative “GiVeMeADoLLaR”, that I’ve used previously. :fffuuu:

Lost one has been my name for some years now. Even though I know where I am going physically and where I am. Mentally, I’m about as lost as a blind cat in a paper sack with the opening above it. Especially now.

Sitting in a High School Spanish class almost 6 years ago as I had a Tauren Shaman in World of Warcraft named Trousers, I mixed the two and got Elpants, went home after class and made an alt Undead Rogue character named Elpants.

Elpants is a pretty much not used anywhere, so it works better.

My real name

bigfan was originally my username on the atari forums (back When I’d comment on people’s custom Content for RCT3) mostly b/c I was a big fan of… well anything I found interesting; terminator, Jurassic park, Black Mesa. the 421 is a corruption of 321 which was my original alt in THESE forums. I was unable to complete registration for bigfan321 (mostly due to the fact that I had input the wrong E-mail address) so I had to go with 100 digits ahead. thus bigfan421

A mix of my first and last name form a very original name.

Mine went through an evolution not entirely in my control.

Let’s turn the dial back to 1993. I was introduced to something called a “BBS” which was a way to talk to people over something called “the Internet” and play games like Tradewars. I didn’t really get into it much but I had to pick a username. At the time, I was on a big Karate Kid kick (probably due to the main character having the name “Daniel” which was my name and me having a crush on Elisabeth Shue). So, my user name became Mr. Miyagi’s name for the main character: DanielSan. With my membership, I got this weirdly formatted thing called an “e-mail address” with the format as danielsan@[BBS Name].com

I got maybe two e-mails in the first six months and those were from the sysadmin. I didn’t really use the account that much; I hated Tradewars and I didn’t know the people on the BBS. Then, one day, this option shows up called “SLIP WWW”. ‘That’s new,’ I thought. I tried it and it launched Netscape. What’s this thing then?

Three months later, I had created my own webpage on Geocities. Green background. Yellow text with red header. And embedded midi that looped playing a monophonic version of “Daniel” by Elton John (where my name actually came from). It was a horrific website, but I had the e-mail address danielsan@geocities.com with it.

Flash forward to 1999. Yahoo buys Geocities. Flash forward more. I buy a new computer and lose the password (I had saved it in the e-mail client and forgot the password). I signed up for a Yahoo e-mail address, using the e-mail address danielsangeo@yahoo.com (to reflect that I still had a Geocities website). Yahoo begins shutting down inactive Geocities websites (mine was shut down because I didn’t have my password anymore and I was using other servers anyway). I no longer have my Yahoo e-mail account.

My nickname, on the web, is danielsangeo now.

It’s my guitar. And before you faggots start whining about how Page is using a Gibson in my signature, he’s my idol, hence why he’s in my signature.

I like fruit.

I just used random usernames for a very long time till I started playing Zombie Panic.

I got killed so many times all I really was was zombie food. (Rot Fodder)

I added perenthisies to give it a bit of uniqueness and the name just stuck.

Used bacon@eggs.com as a fake email a few years ago. Turned it into a username and voila!

Yeah, I play an Ibanez axe as well. (And an Ovation).

Their active pick ups are very crisp.

PS. Why should think that everyone is a faggot? It is J Page on your pic, not Queen.

Note-anator.

There are several (Blank)-anators on the site. My handle in cyber space is Realnotes. So, it seemed fitting. The Realnotes handle is a nod at music. I have toured and been a part of music from the wee early days. (Shrugs)

Started out as Silverbolt (from Transformers), turned into S-Bolt-- after a while, then evolved into Bolt and at some point, people started calling me Bolteh, and there we go.

Was trying to think of a cool name for an MMO character and I came up with Orpheon. Later I realized it was the name of the frigate that was the first level on Metroid Prime. I liked it and it has stuck for a few years, use it for a lot of usernames now.

Wasn’t there already a thread for this?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
