execution of troy davis

you know it costs more taxpayer money to execute a prisoner than to keep them in prison for life right
so you’re paying out the ass for someone to get murdered, because you dont like when people get murdered.
welp.

And what makes you think you have the right to decide for others about who has the right to live and who doesn’t? You want someone killed because that someone killed another person, that makes you no better than the murderer.

Who says that killing is inherently bad? Killing in self defense is fine, right? Killing to protect others is fine, right? So why not killing as a punishment?

The argument “killing is wrong” is incredibly flawed, stop using it. Instead, decide where to draw the line.

I never said any of that, I was trying to tell him that if he thinks murder is wrong, then why does he want to use it on other people who have committed a murder. ‘drawing a line’ is pointless because it’s all based on emotion. Just think of the times when they hanged or burned people because they thought they were witches.

All I’m saying is that killing≠murder.

…well, shit, I looked that up and you’re right. That’s pretty fucked up in and of itself.

Not when people, even serial killers, continue to have rights under the US Constitution (as long as we’re talking about the US, that is) and that no one, without exception, has the right to life and liberty except for when it’s taken away by the due process of law. One may not like it, but it actually protects (or should) those falsely accused of crimes that warrant a death penalty sentence.

And, yes, innocents have been put to death and, afterwards, evidence has come out to say, hey, that person didn’t do it.

Not really. That money goes to appeals, which are designed to prevent incorrect convictions, which happen anyway. There really aren’t any reason to keep the death penalty beside the idea of revenge, and the justice system should be above that.

I’m just saying that while it happening ever is terrible, its also inevitable. In a system effectively run by the people, you cannot expect that biases and prejudice will not affect the outcome from time to time. However, its the best system we and a species have, and it functions well.
The number of pardons are tiny compared to the number of convictions, and as great if it would be if there was never a false conviction, thats out of the question.

what are the positive aspects of death penalty?

-it’s expensive
-it doesn’t deter murderers
-you kill innocent people

There is a better system: End the death penalty.

As acade said, it’s expensive, you might kill innocent people and…well…it’s not a deterrent.

What do we do with those that commit the most heinous of crimes; those that cannot be rehabilitated? Life in jail without the possibility of parole.

It’s funny that half of the people protesting just want an excuse to get mad at the government

or you know theyre upset that a potentially innocent man was executed after four execution dates and years of psychological torture

Source?

He’s also black, so the entire African-American community is in upheaval regardless of innocence.

In proportion to the number of total convictions? Yeah, its tiny.

Also, for the thicker among you, I already said I oppose the death penalty multiple times.

from a societal pov, the best thing is always what benefits humanity most, no? So this is a hard choice between the benefits of fueling controversy and as such accelerating the great demise of american society, and the disadvantages of focusing potentially interesting minds on such a trivial issue

then from my own pov I don’t give a damn, but whatever makes people talk about other people

death penalty = murder paid for by the government

death penalty = murder paid, controlled, planned and executed by the government that is legal and most of the time, just.

But again, it’s just my personal opinion.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
