Eureka! I've found it! - it's pretty tiny though

That’s what she said.

dubstep sounds like the subwoofer is cranked too high. Hurts mah ears it does.

“dubstep sounds like”
“rock sounds like”
“hip hop sounds like”
“techno sounds like”

Dubstep done right, IMHO.

I came here to write this.

https://explosm.net/comics/2565/

Let me tell you a mildly amusing story. Once I went out to dinner with some friends and one of them brought along one of their friends whom I did not know. I ended up sitting across from him at the table. Evidently in an effort to break the ice he asked me what kind of music I liked. I didn’t really know how to best answer that question but I figured it would be easiest to simply list some of the genres I liked - rock, alternative, techno, etc. Then this genius bursts out with this gem (and I’m paraphrasing): “No no, I meant like what kind of bands and songs do you listen to. Music is way too broad and I think that anyone who categorizes music into genres doesn’t really know what they’re talking about.” I blankly stared at him as he gave me a smug smile. “Uh huh,” I said, and blandly ended the conversation. I never said another word to him again. It was unfortunate because I knew we shared a lot of interests, but I simply couldn’t stand being around him.

The moral of the story is, pretentiousness is all well and good on the internet where it doesn’t really matter and it might get a few laughs, but when it comes to face to face interactions, it’s nothing but a way to instantly let everyone know they should avoid you. Surprisingly enough, people don’t seem to like it when you tell them they like sucks.

That’s my 2 cents.

I’d take that with a grain of salt. You can be somewhat self confident (and therefore arrogant), just not so much that you piss someone off.

I don’t mean to be pretentious, but the last 3 words don’t make sense. Seems like you’re missing the word “what”

But people really don’t like when you tell them they like sucks. Do you like sucks sersoft?

well done, you completely shut a person out based on the second sentence he said near you

i mean, if he had said something like “i’m a great fan of the holocaust and other atrocities” i’d agree, but really?

i kind of even agree, words like rock techno etc are really broad and can mean a lot of different/overlapping things, so if you want to get specific genres are no good
maybe he knew you know a lot of music and he wanted to get right to the point

so much judgement :frowning:

real moral of the story: you’re the one who’s actually pretentious/arrogant

Lol yup I missed a “what” there.

In that context he posted or this situation (convo, w/e you want to put it)? You have to be specific.

If it’s the latter, which I doubt, it’s over the internet. You can’t typically judge who someone is terribly well with just text on the screen (and not in real time, no less).

You may get an idea of who the person is with constant interaction, but that only goes so far. You don’t know the person’s day-to-day habits or whether they’re an actor/ress, a serial killer, etc.

Farther, you can’t judge him to be pompous unless you know the full context of the situation. He gives superficial details, but hasn’t given a fully detailed account. You don’t know everything that’s going on.

TL;DR: You don’t know who he is, nor do I. Don’t jump to conclusions.

Edit: On topic: If it’s mixed with some other music (like how Daniel pointed out) Dubstep’s tolerable. Though only mildly… usually. KoRn + Skrillex + Kill The Noise (Narcissistic Cannibal) is one of those tolerable ones that actually sounds awesome.

No need to defend me. I stand by my decision to keep my distance from that dude. Many stories, broken friendships, and split-up bands have confirmed it for me. Perhaps I seem judgmental from that quick anecdote, but I just cannot convey to you how irritating this guy’s manner is. Just one of the limitations of text-only communications…

Also, I think there is a substantial difference between confidence and arrogance. Confidence is about being sure of yourself - you know your abilities, what you can and can’t do, etc. Arrogance and pretentiousness is believing that, and acting like, you are superior to others. That’s what bugs me about bashing music genres, or bashing of just about anything that’s so subjective. It only seems like they’re doing it to try to look cool and educated, but if so it’s just snobbery to try to fit in with other snobs. And it’s just so baseless! You know why in TV everyone puts up with a-holes like House and Sherlock? It’s because they’re brilliant! Can you imagine if they acted like they do but with nothing to show for it? They wouldn’t be beloved characters, they’d be the insufferable pricks you hope get killed off ASAP. People should just do like that Paul McCartney song and live and let live. “Actually that was Live and Let Die.” “Whatever, whatever, it had a good beat.”

Anyway I’m starting to rant so that’s the last I’ll say about any of this.

heh, yeah i tend to be quicker to judge on the internet than irl (and when i judge its usually someone who’s judging or otherwise denigrating someone else…), soooo… sorry

I am honored, Orpheon. Not many people compare me to Dr. House. Typically they reference a Sheldon Cooper instead, with whom I am unfamiliar.

That violin dubstep chick annoys me. I have no doubt that she knows how to play, but her retarded movements and expression in the video makes it look like extremely shite playback.

Reminds me of the background musicians in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcATvu5f9vE

:3 this

Of course it’s playback in the videos, but trust me, Lindsey can really play.

I guess this is going to sound a bit rude but w/e.

How do you exactly know she’s able to play?
