The problem was time. First of all, in a short film, there simply is not enough real time to show enough scenes to develop a relationship between two characters, not unless you are a really masterful writer already. It’s interesting to note, however, Escape from City 17 worked a lot better because the characters already had a relationship. They didn’t set it up, they just presented the characters as being friends and we accepted it. It worked much better. Second, not enough time had passed inside the movie world for the relationship to be believable. The battle may have lasted for a week, but they are only shown to be together for a day, two days tops. Even if a deep romantic relationship COULD happen, it would feel much more realistic if the culmination of their experiences just made them respect each other. Some better actors would also help with believability.
Oh and don’t take criticism of this film so personally. I was just pointing out what could make it better in a perfect world, I’m not faulting them for not making it the best short film ever. They did an awesome job for a $250 budget + whatever they already owned, but if they DID have a better monetary/time budget, this is what I’d like to see done better.
