Something kinda clicked for me here.
So, Gman said ‘prepare for unforeseen consequences’ immediately before the RC. Even though he said it, they went ahead and did it.
Now Gman has said ‘prepare for unforeseen consequences’ immediately before the Borealis. The clash between using it (Kleiner) and not using the technology (Eli) will obviously play out.
Now that 1) Eli is dead and 2) The unforeseen consequences line, I am very certain that they will use the borealis technology.
@George: Good point, i suppose it is time for him to sleep lol.
Gets to the borealis testchamber
Collapses of exhaustion
Wakes up being ripped apart by advisors
HALF LIFE ENDS…
Man would that suck.
So i suppose it would work if we wake up over the arctic.
@Assassin: I think (hope) that’l be our choice, as Gordon
Can’t wait, what would you do? Personally i’d destroy it. Can’t see anything good coming from another resonance cascade…
IMO itd be boring not to, so I prob would. Though Alyx might be mad tho.
And the combine would come through and kick the crap outa you?
Or perhaps we’re supposed to use it, to get directly to the combine homeworld and get the combine ‘leader’ although i doubt there is one, and doubt there will be anything on the otherside that will give us a chance to do so.
It’d be like teleporting to that invasion force at the end of HL-1, except combine…
Good luck with that assasin I think i’l just destroy it
I supose Gordons entitled to some sleep, Hes had barley any since black mesa. and the time he has had has been under rubble/train wreckage. so I dont think that counts as a good nights sleep.
I hope this will not have higher system requirements than Ep2.
‘prepare for unforeseen consequences’…the bad thing has already happened.
Remember the end of episode 2…that was the resonance cascade of episode 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTtVmRCOYEw 3:40.
Note he said it right before the thing happened. You’re thinking of the level.
I always thought the “unforeseen consequences” was the death of eli. Possibly the price to be paid for the vorts/resistance stealing gordon from his employers.
that could be.
Like sure the rocket worked, but eli’s gone. that could be.
No… eli says in the game ‘prepare for unforseen consequences’ has to do with the borealis… and that it’l probably be just as bad as the resonance cascade if the teleporter where turned on…
Was noone paying attention?
We were paying attention. Eli was wrong and now he is dead. He thought unforseen consequences was about the borealis, or his daughter. but it was(possibly) about him. Or maybe all three, as g-man has been known to be a tad cryptic
no!
It is possible that the G-man wanted the resonance cascade to happen. Remember, we don’t know his motivation yet, but I can deduce a few things from his words:
He is an employee of an organization that is trying to get control of the borderworld Xen. You unwittingly help the organization and are offered a job (acting in defiance of his employer’s wishes when he pulled Alyx out of there). When you accept, you’re placed in stasis for while and then released to help the organization again. From there, you take down Breen and engage a massive resistance movement against the Combine. During your escapades, the G-man contracts you out to…those interested in your services. However, the G-man’s actions lead him to be imprisoned by the vorts where he cannot use his powers against you but can speak to you when the vorts are otherwise occupied.
So! Here’s what I think: The organization that the G-man works for is upset that he ignored their objections. I fully believe that, once they found out where the G-man was and how to get to him, the vorts imprisoned him. My current working theory is that the organization that employs the G-man (and, by extension, Freeman) is made up of vortigaunts who had splintered off from their colleagues when the Nihilanth took over. They employed G-man (an alien, if the Nihilanth is to be believed) to find a way to remove the Nihilanth’s influence and gain control over the borderworld once again.
Or, it’s possible that the G-man works for the Combine and just has a soft heart when it comes to humans whom, he feels, should have a shot.
Of course, I could be just shooting in the dark.
I always thought the g-man was employed by the combine to find a way to strike the nilianth in xen. Then, as breen said, gordon’s services were offered to the highest bidder, which was the vorts/resistance. The vorts didn’t want to pay for gordon anymore, so they took him. G-man gets angered and in exchange for the vorts taking gordon, he exacts a price- eli’s life.
Any more ideas? I can’t wait for ep3
I don’t get what the resistance could offer the g-man though?
“If you help us against the combine, we’l give you… dog!”
I very much doubt the g-man is part of an organisation, i’d imagine it’s just him, using his powers to get what ‘he’ wants.
I very much doubt the vorts imprisoned him, it’s simply that when they are around, he can’t be, because of their abilities to block him out.
Woah brainwave… What if the G-man is an all powerfull power crazed vort? Now isn’t that just the craziest shit you’ve ever heard!
I don’t get what the G-man had to do with eli’s death? Why would he give the combine that kind of advantage? Why would he go to all the trouble to get alyx to say those things to him, just as a ‘YEAH ELI DON’T MESS WITH ME’ line just before he gets him killed? Abit over the top don’t you think?
No, that message was to get him to want to destroy the borealis, that i’m sure of.
That’s the only point I agree on I just found the rest of the post a bit over the top
Actually, he’s made several mentions of his “employers” which could be a cohesive single organization or a group of “investors” and “contractors” who seek out the services of bounty hunters and the like. The G-man, during the ‘heart to heart’ he has with Gordon while the vorts are distracted, suggest that his “employers” are limiting him (“I have agreed to abide by certain…restrictions.”)
I don’t know if G-man necessarily wants to destroy the Borealis. Again, during the ‘heart to heart’, the G-man claims that he needs to “extract” certain “repayment” from Gordon Freeman for his continued existence and survival. I believe that this “repayment” was in the form of Eli’s life (Eli was of no further use to the G-man or his ‘organization’ but Alyx and Gordon are). Also, it’s possible that the “unforeseen consequences” was not only for Eli (his death in repayment for Gordon’s survival), but for Gordon, who, upon possibly destroying the Borealis, unleashes a far greater threat to mankind than the Combine.
Again, I could be wrong, but that’s my theory.
You take what he says far to literally, and believe everything he says, which is exactly what you don’t wanna do.
Employers could mean anything, i personally don’t think he ‘works’ directly for anyone, but simply makes deals with different groups ( contracted ). I mean, he has power far beyond anyone we’ve seen so far, if there where an entire race of G-men then I very much doubt they’d need human, or anyone’s help in taking out the combine.
Having agreed to abide to certain resrictions could simply mean ‘those vorts are stopping me’. Him saying he’s agreed to, doesn’t necesserily mean that he actually has a choice, it’s the G-man talking ffs.
Also, i was under the impression that the ‘payment’ Gordon makes is to make sure Alyx survives to white forest, he even says this.
Also, what use was Eli to G-man before his death? Other than the influence he has on what the resistance do, which is why he sent the message so he would want to destroy the borealis.
Why would the G-man go to all the trouble of giving Alyx a message, for Eli to then take it the completely wrong way? Unless in HL2 G-mans gonna say “Yeah Eli didn’t get the point, i actually want you to turn the damn thing on”
?
Also, why would destroying a teleporter unleash something worse? Where do you get that idea from?
Did you play HL1?
Was I playing a completely different HL2?
But you still didn’t answer this, if the G-man is against the combine, and wants Eli dead, why would he give Eli over to the combine? That just doesn’t make any sense. ( This is assuming the combine can gain information through the way in which they killed him, a theory i believe )
Unless of course the G-man is on the combine’s side, but again, that doesn’t make sense.
See, here’s the thing: I’ve read many stories where the guy you think is always lying is actually telling the truth…in a…roundabout way. You think what he’s saying is a lie because you don’t know the whole story.
For example:
You’re driving a car and someone tells you. “Death will happen at the next overpass.” You drive through the overpass and see nothing. You hear nothing. You feel nothing. Is the guy lying? Nope. A bug that was flitting by slammed into the front of your car and was squished. Death happened at the next overpass but, since it wasn’t revealed what KIND of death, you assume certain things…things that aren’t in evidence.
We don’t know for sure why the G-man told Alyx to tell Eli to prepare for unforeseen consequences. After all, after Alyx says that, you’re pulled by Magnusson away from Alyx and Eli and you don’t see them again until after the Strider battle. Do you know what happened during that intervening time? I don’t.
I trust the G-man more than, say, Breen. While he may speak very cryptically and is very hesitant about advancing any information that he doesn’t feel you should know, I don’t know of a single case where the G-man has ever actually lied to anyone. Do you?
