No it doesn’t. Being born in America (or to American parents, or being a naturalized citizen) makes you a “true American” and doing something to improve or support your country makes you a “patriot.”
If your government does something retarded and you disagree with it, it doesn’t make you a patriot, it just means you are a functionally rational human being.
Damn this thread went downhill fast (albeit from a very low apex).
If the conspiracy theorists are right and the government is in fact using a self-engineered false flag operation which was carried out against its own people to oppress them, brainwash them, send their children to war and cut their liberties until they are little more than slaves, the Truth movement is indeed trying to DO SOMETHING to improve or support America - by revealing the crimes of those who are doing America most harm of all.
Taking into consideration that these 9/11 Truth people are convinced of their cause, they are indeed trying to be good patriots. Which is even harder for them, considering they are standing against a majority of people who think patriotism is supporting your government, even if it takes your liberties away and sends your children to die in foreign dust.
Who are you to judge whether or not this thread is going downhill? Do you know so much more than we do? If so, please enlighten us!
I don’t believe a patriot is one who unthinkingly follows the government. Most Americans have a substantial issue with their government, they just don’t believe that they orchestrated the September 11th attacks.
Being a Patriot means taking advantage of your rights. So, in a way, the 9/11 Truthers are Patriots.
Now if you’ll excuse me I need to wash myself so I don’t feel so dirty.
Being a patriot, by dictionary definition, means “one who loves and defends his/her country,” which the truthers believe they are doing. So by their standards they are patriots. However, since the propaganda they promote is so obviously incorrect, I would call them “indirectly unpatriotic”.
What I was getting at was “having an opinion, even if it’s against one’s own government, is being a patriot.” But you’re right.
Anyway, does anyone else here watch “The Young Turks” as their source for current events? Sure, they maybe a little bit too “lefty”, but they at least keep their bolts screwed in. Unlike, say, Glen Beck.
You lucked out this time - in the future, if you’re going to respond to my posts please quote me because I won’t be reading your ridiculous wall-of-text posts in order to find out whether the nonsense you’re spouting is relevant to the points I bring up.
On topic, “truthers” do nothing except post WOT on the internet and make anyone who comes into contact with you look bad (even if it’s only to stoop to your level by attempting to reason with you).
There are rational people who acknowledge there was in fact a coverup, it’s not even debatable if you know the facts. But “truthers” have taken that nugget of truth and ran in the most retarded possible direction with it, ensuring that anyone who pushes for investigation in the future will be automatically discredited by that single tenuous association of “agreeing with truthers.” Ironic that your “movement” does more to prevent a real investigation than pretty much any other factor short of Cheney’s paper shredder.
Really? I find some of their video hilarious yet depressing as they desperately try to paint conservatives as racist. To me I would rather have Glen Beck as my news source for life than have them as my News Source for a day, lest I actually think something they say vaguely factual.
This is a good time to mention my hatred for people like the Young Turks. To a conservative like me, the left is wrong. That is not to say that they have not thought through their arguments, but I believe that my side has more support. And this view is held by many conservatives and many liberals. however, there is a small group of extremists on the left that do not consider you wrong if you disagree with them, they consider you evil. Repeatedly while watching the Young turks, I see them combating conservative view point with accusations of racism, instead of reasoned arguments. Such people should be shunned as much as racists, as they are no better, casting discriminatory stereo types, not by race, but by political belief.
