Duke Nukem Forever RELEASE DATE

From the trailer, it sounds like the game will be acknowledging the length of time that we have been waiting for the game. After all, the trailer states that he’s “rested” and all. Maybe Duke will awaken in a drunken stupor and complain about an awful hangover and not being able to remember where he is, or something.

From what I’ve read that part where duke’s Holding a controller is the beginning (well, after blasting the all-mighty fuck out of the Cycloid Emperor one last time)

. . .but the Cube. . .it’s. . .it’s. . .your Companion. . .

Seriously, it’s all part of the joke that has been overdone way too many times. I assure you that I’m aware of its prevalence.

Still not looking forward to Duke, sorry.

personally I thought the cube companion was a brilliant move. for some reason, folks like to assign love to certain characters in games they play. hl it was barney. portal it was cube.

amiwrong?

I agree, though I believe solely it lies in the creativity and interactions of the player with the npc (and its AI) and/or object in mind.

yup. i believe with barney it was an accident, but with the cube it was meticulously crafted.

I never saw what the big deal was. It was a cube. I threw it in the incinerator within 5 seconds of being told to.

CTID: You monster.

If you say so.

It was a cube, it had no feelings.

Eli’s death on the other hand I was all DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD: for.

i killed him every chance i got but i guess you could call that love, it was a mercy killing…yeah…mercy killing

Yeah, all those clones of him weren’t gonna have a long and healthy life anyway.

If they fuck up the grabbag theme (Main Menu Theme in DN3D), I am going to shove a live Turkey up the CEO’s ass. Assuming 3D Realms even has one!

I did that too. I was like “sure, why not. I hate lugging this thing around the level anyway.” So for me it was a burden being lifted. And then having GlaDOS being killed in a similar way was more of a case of irony than a revenge thing.

Maybe I’m just heartless.

Nah, people who feel something for that piece of crap just have daddy issues.

Alyx Vance, on the other hand, is a well written, funny, and above all relatable character. Hence why I want Episode Three to tie up the loose ends in the story arc.

I never felt attached to the companion cube. I saw it as a satire of player/character bonding, not an attempt at player/character bonding.

Satire is the word for it. Portal was full of it.

Back to DNF.

Even though I’m sure this game will not be as great as I hoped all these years, I’ll most likely have lots of fun playing this game, because, c’mon, it’s Duke Fuking Nukem, that guy never gets boring.

That, and 3DR probably still know how to make a fun game.

I’m really looking forward to it. Not expecting the best game ever, but at least it will be something different from most recent FPS. I feel the realism aspect has really plagued FPS games for way too long, and the whole “mute hero” thing I’ve never cared for. Sure there are other games that deviate from the norm, but not as drastically.

And I’m looking forward to the interactivity in this game. Being able to turn on sinks with your hands, grabbing and choking enemies when you go up to them, lifting weights to boost your ego, playing pinball machines - Seems very much in the spirit of the kind of things the original DN3D promoted in terms of interactivity.

lol, who’d have thought, A new game, being different from other FPSes, by being like the old game, but with new tech and features.

Seriously, about people’s expectations about this game - I think some people need to wake up. Yeah its not going to be the best, but people are gonna hate it just for that. A lot of people don’t seem to realize this game was pretty much made in the past 3-4 years - due to the engine switching, they had to scrap older stuff entirely.

If it wasn’t called DNF, it wouldn’t get as much flak as it does. Hell, 3DR probably could have said they scrapped DNF in 07’ and that they were working on a new Duke game, and it would’ve been the same result, just a different way of looking at it.

Now that I think about it, there’s a good chance that’s true. A lot of people forget what made Duke 3D so successful. It wasn’t the cheesy one-liners, it was the fact that it moved FPS game design forward, particularly with scripted events and interesting weapons, and it took us out of the techno-dungeons and into some interesting levels. 3D Realms had a lot of very smart, very talented people there.

I’m glad the game was mostly finished by the time Gearbox took it over.
