Doom fans

I’ve played the first and second one on my iPod but I didn’t finish them due to the shitty controls, also I’ve played doom 3 but didn’t finish it because it got repetitive and boring.

Rofl, bait successfully taken. Well done ladies. What do you think an unpopular view with “Go” at the end was designed to do? The OP’s sig even says “Doom 3 sucks”. I took the opportunity to play the “Doom 3 and movie rocks” to see the fanboy rage. I’ll spell it out for ya: “Here’s an inflammatory statement. Let the rage begin”. Hook, line and sinker. It was supposed to be the OP who was the only one stupid enough to fall for it though.

Who on earth would think a movie based on a game has been good yet. They always seem to change parts for no reason. Doom is a game about - monsters from hell. Doom is a movie about - an alien virus.

yawn

agreed. Didn’t even read shasta’s post, it’s probably about him trying to troll me by saying i was talking about the doom 3 movie only and not VIDEO GAME MOVIES IN GENERAL.

Oh well. Hook line and sinker, tea rolled.

Doom³ was alright, but it was like they didn’t know what direction to go with the game. The old skool elements were diluted by the predictable scares and mind numbing PDA rapports, and the story elements were diluted by the predictable scares and mind numbing PDA rapports :meh:

Actually I think the Silent Hill movie was pretty good. Sure, the hardcore fans probably won’t like it because it’s different from the movies, but here is a video game movie adaptation that doesn’t suck bollocks.

GZDoom FTW. The only thing it doesnt do well is Strife.

Then again, if you are planning on playing the VANILLA versions of the “big 4” (Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen) use JDoom. It has much better graphics technology (3d models, etc.) but does not support addons such as ACS scripting or Boom (or decorate). It will play all “old” doom PWADS, or any maps with no special Boom requirements. I think it supports DEHACKED.

Of course, you know this, but others might come into this thread and not know it :stuck_out_tongue:

DOOM and Wolfenstein provide most of my earliest memories. Great times.

Man Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom are all Classics. Back when i was in high school, i used to take the Doom 95 launcher and set it up on my schools computer, and play it in computer lab with like 20 other people since it ran off a LAN. It was so easy because Doom runs off of Wad files and can run solo out of its own folder. Ive played this game since Windows 98, and now I’m on Windows 7 and I still find myself playing it every now and then. I still know all the cheat codes by heart lol  I know im a nerd, but if anyone wants these games just send me a pm, i have them all nicely in a rar file. (Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom). I also know how to fix the issue of the old Doom not running at all on Windows Vista, and 7 if anyone wants to know.

Wow. You’re stereotyping all fanboys into being pricks. Is it so bad to be one? Especially when the company I’m a fanboy of is pretty good at making quality video games. The only fanboys I despise are the Halo ones. Other than that, I’m fine with being a fanboy.

Anyway, back on topic. The movie was a waste. I just… It was your run-of-the-mill action movie, sure. However, this movie was REALLY hyped up by Doom fans (not sure about rest of community). And id Software was even involved in the movie’s development. How could such a thing happen?!

I played DOOM last year and got DOOM II this year. Both were fucking awesome.
Comparing old games to “today’s standards” is retarded, imo. What matters is if the game provides a fun/unique/rewarding experience. The DOOM games (and I guess Goldeneye if you’re into that kind of stuff) succeed in all of those areas.

Doom 3 was decent, but as I said before, it wasn’t DOOM.

I define a fanboy (in the gaming world at least) as someone who thinks the franchise/platform that they are fans of is better than anything else and will start pointless flamewars about how it’s so much better than another franchise.
For example: That one guy that made the “Halo vs Half-Life” thread is a Half-Life fanboy. There’s nothing wrong with being a fan of either game franchise (regardless of your opinion on either, but I think it’s safe to say that we all love Half-Life), but when someone tries to start pointless debates about which is better, it normally results in flamewars (ie one massive fanboy dick fight.)

I’m a fanboy of the universe and all it’s contents.

Before anyone decides to reply to this post, here’s a Pro-Tip:

He’s back!

With a vengeance.

Pretty much.

Mood, Doom doesn’t have!

Doom 3 was great. The movie was actually pretty good as well. Really excited for Doom 4.

Anyway, I made a map for Doom 2 recently; link for those who want to try it.

Doom³ was a decent shooter, but the problem was that it was too hyped and it just didn’t live up to expectations. People thought it would have a story and that just sucked. And the people who simply wanted a shooter were put off by the constant cheap scares and annoying flashlight mechanic.

I really hope that Doom 4 will be more like the older games, but if they manage to put in a decent story and narrative that would be the dog’s bollocks

It doesn’t have to be a real deep story, something along the lines of Quake 4 which I much prefer over Doom³ any day;

Hardly. If you play a game today, you should be comparing it to games that are out today, because those are the possibilities you have to choose from for what to play. As such, it sucks by todays standards and I’d rather play something modern with, say, good graphics, a story, 3d modeled enemies, physics, more gameplay depth than a puddle after a light rain, etc.
In short, saying Doom is good today is like saying an early 1800s musket is good today. Sure, for its time, it was the best there was, but times change, and if you walk onto the battlefield with one of those things you are going to get owned.

A game that was fun 20 years ago doesn’t suddenly cease to be fun just because today’s games are prettier.

Just like today’s games like World of Goo and Plants vs. Zombies are impossibly fun despite their simplicity.

My thoughts: You=Graphics Whore
