Doom fans

Just like the title says. Fans of the FPS series that started it all (no, Wolfenstein did NOT start the craze), Doom.

Whether it be Doom Shareware, Doom Registered, Ultimate Doom, Final Doom, Doom II, all the other Doom iWADs I can’t list, or even that piece of shit Doom III (yes, it’s a piece of shit that doesn’t deserve to be called Doom), post your experiences with the series here.

I’m personally a Doom/Ultimate Doom kind of guy. I discovered it a couple of years ago (kinda late, huh?) and since then I’ve begun basic attempts at making custom iWADs with the Doom Builder level/iWAD editor. I never get tired of Doom (sorta how like I never get tired of Half Life).

Doom 3 is pretty fun, and the movie was hilarious.

GZDoom FTW

Doom 3 was fine, and so was the movie. Go.

I loved Doom 3…

Yep I loved Doom 3 as well and since you discovered doom only a few years ago you can’t just go and say Doom 3 sucks :<

Doom was the first game I ever played when i was about 4, great stuff.

I enjoy Doom 3. It’s no Half Life 2, but its still a good game. I found it rather frightening on the first play through .

I thought Doom 3 was decent.

Man, I used to be sooo into Doom. Doom 3 was alright; but I think they put most of their focus on the graphics, and not enough on the other aspects of the game. Liked the movie too.

Since I’ve never played Doom and its 20 years old, I think I can safely say that it sucks by todays standards.

How smart of you.

Well, that’s a lot of replies!

Yes, I’ve played Doom 3. I found it frightening on the first play-though. I think I exaggerated a bit by calling it a piece of crap. But still…

As a game, it’s a fine one. But it’s not Doom. Doom is a game that’s action-themed. Sure, it had its share of scary moments, but Doom mostly was a run-and-gun game where you ran around blasting baddies. Doom 3 threw that formula right out the window with a more cautious approach reminiscent of Half Life.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Half Life. It’s NOT Doom. By slapping “Doom” 3 on the cover, I expect an action game (Serious Sam is something I expected when I popped Doom 3 in, if you need a comparison). The game itself is fine. However, it lowered my expectations for the series.

One other thing I didn’t like was the flashlight. Why? Why can’t he duct-tape the flash light onto his gun? If the point of not having a light source on his gun was for the horror aspect, why couldn’t the developers use different forms of horror (ie. physics related horror, such as floating objects; psychological horror, such as ambient horror music). I honestly thought the game was okay, but it’s pretty crappy for something that has the ballz to claim it’s “Doom”.

Ultimate DooM was soo much better than DooM II. I’m not sure what happened there. (I think it’s the music that ruins it)

If you ever get the urge to play Doom, do so through the Doomsday Engine source port. It significantly ups the graphics and adds several modern day gameplay enhancements.

And best IWAD is most definitely the Aliens TC. Epic.

I personally love most ID games and all Valve games but I’m not a big fan of fake steam achievement userbars.

So ladies and gentlemen, I think we found the one person in existence to think that the Doom movie was at the passing level of “fine”. First off, I must agree by saying that Doom 3 is a decent enough game (not the xbox version) in my humble opinion… but seriously the Doom movie… “fine”!? You need to watch that movie again and if you still like it then you are either a huge The Rock fan, or you have bad taste in movies.

P.S. I’m kinda a fanboy of neither, I can see why doom and valve games are likeable… but personally I like Konami or Capcom games. :stuck_out_tongue:

What sick man proudly classifies himself as a fanboy? Fanboys are pricks, no exceptions

doom nukem forever is the best

The only part worth watching in the DooM movie was the first-person sequence. That was pretty cool.

What if someone were to declare themselves a “Ramirezoid fanboy”?

Would you call that person a prick too?

The movie was terrible. I couldn’t watch the whole thing. I own the first one on steam, never played through it though.
