DOOM 3 BFG Edition... save your money!

This. In the MGS HD collection, they touched almost nothing from Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and put it on the PS3/Xbox 360. There were a few textures that they did touch (Guns Of Patriots on the first door you go through as Raiden) but those are in the minority. I’m assuming MGS3: Subsistence was the same. (minus MGO not being there)

Same with Ratchet & Clank HD, I didn’t notice any textures or effects that weren’t there in the PS2 originals.

All too often people confuse HD rereleases as remakes. If they keep everything the same aside from the odd bug, texture, etc. here and there, it’s not a remake. See Resident Evil on the PS1, then look at it on the GameCube. That’s a completely different game. Doom 3 BFG is the same game.

Back on topic, I’ve just installed some mods (haven’t edited CGFs to fully enable them yet) and, well, I think I have a problem.

The starting cutscene looked fine until the camera moved away from the monitor :fffuuu:
Gonna try and fix this tomorrow.

Looks like you have a helmet on and someone smeared shit on your visor.

It… it looks brown :frowning:

I posted this in the screenshot thread but I’ll do it here too.

Go into your folders and open DoomConfig.cfg. Now go through and look for:

seta com_videoRam “2048”

seta image_downSizeLimit “0”
seta image_ignoreHighQuality “0”
seta image_downSizeBumpLimit “0”
seta image_downSizeSpecularLimit “0”
seta image_downSizeBump “0”
seta image_downSizeSpecular “0”

And maybe a few other variables around that area. Some of them are probably wrong. I know that my video ram was set to something negative and most of the second part for me were 1’s.

Yeah, I did what Kai said, and also made the changes listed here since that guy used mostly what I have installed. It’s significantly better now, but some of the stuff Sikkmod does bother me.
(I had already done the resolution/aspect ratio in vanilla Doom 3, so I already knew about that)

Therefore it’s not a remake, simply an HD upscaling.

A few examples of remakes:

  1. Black Mesa: A remake because they made everything from scratch with more detail than the original, in a completely different engine.

  2. Bionic Commando: Rearmed: A remake because they made everything from scratch by implementing fully polygonal environments, with more detail than the original.

  3. Super Mario All-Stars: Three remakes on one cartridge that implemented entirely different sprites, with much more detail than their NES counterparts.

  4. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D/Starfox 64 3D: Practically the same games as the N64 originals, but with all new models and textures. Still qualified as remakes.

Doom 3 BFG Edition does not fit any of those qualities as the textures are the same. It’s a rerelease that takes advantage of the upscaling, that this generation’s hardware allows for, from whatever the native resolution was initially.

Yeah

Your brevity is appreciated.

So, has anyone used the oculus rift with this yet?

I would buy the game just for that tbh, no matter how much of a halfassed port it is.

Too bad $$$

It looks REAL

I tried the BFG edition. It’s pretty cool, for those of us that don’t have the patience or the hardware for sikkmod, which I tried but the screen looked like stretched rubber so… No.

Here’s a game video showing portions of levels from the original Doom 3 being reused in the supposed new “The Lost Mission” chapter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Rv1nKtRH4xE

Click on the “Show more” tab below the video to see game screenshots showing additional examples of reused content. All in all a pretty lazy and inexcusable poor effort on the part of id Software.

they’ve done that with every source port they make for consoles to come…

i guarantee you doom will be ported and ported and ported for every console, until the industry dies (i am speaking of the old ones, not the new)
as for pc, get a dosbox or optimize a source port yourself…
or if you are lazy download the GOG fixes

For anyone interested, a PC update has been released alongside the source code.

I need help… I have no clue how to bring the console… Itried doing the +set com_allowConsole 1 thing… but then i remembered… is a cracked game, is not running on steam! can anyone help m eplease?

Buy the game.

^

My thoughts entirely.

Besides, clicking “Install” on Steam is WAY less trouble than going through cracking the game. Plus you’re not eligible for about a billion goodies with most games.
Long story short, buy your games, it’s worth it.
If you don’t WANT to buy it, it’s probably not good enough for you.

Stop doing this u pricks

Doing what… exactly?

Anything I’ve done?

I just want some help… can someone just help me out without being an arse about this? is not like I am made of money ya know?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
