Here in the United States, the government is mulling over the idea of repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. For those unfamiliar with this, here’s a bit of history:
During the President Clinton administration, a law was passed called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” which said that homosexuals could serve in the military if, and only if, it’s not revealed that they are homosexual. If they say they are (or, weirdly enough, someone outs them), they are discharged from the military.
President Obama has stated that one of his goals is to repeal DADT and allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military (i.e., they cannot be discharged simply for having it revealed that they’re homosexual).
I’d like to hear perspectives on this from both the American side and from people in other countries.
I’ll provide my perspective a little later but I want to hear from you guys first.
