basically a couple weeks ago I had to use a system recovery to cleanse my PC of viruses, and I’m pretty sure it wiped the driver software (or whatever) of my disk drive and so I can’t run disks. any help to offer??
much appreciated

Reinstall the driver?
Yeah, how??
Download a new driver from the Internets? If it’s a hard disk, you shouldn’t need drivers for it to at least show up when you explore your computer.
no nothing. and i’ve tried searchng the internets, so far nothing.
Can we get some more information about your computer? Drive? That kind of thing?
dammnit, umm, its an Advent QC 6003. I have no idea how you find out about the drive
So, what’s happening? I’m trying to nail down what is specifically going on before I can even hope to provide a start to troubleshooting.
well basically, I put a disk in, and nothing happens, when I go to the drive shortcut on ‘my computer’ it just says 'please insert a disk into removable disk (and then the name of the drive- ther are four of them)"
Advent QC 6003 is not the brand of the drive you have, that’s the make/model of the whole computer (which is just a collection of parts from other manufacturers). Just to make sure we’re on the same page, are you talking about a media card (SD, micro SD, Sony Duo, etc) or an optical disc like a CD or DVD? A CD should not be considered “removable disc” that sounds more like a flash card or USB drive.
You should be able to see the drive in Device Manager (in Windows 7, right click My Computer, select properties, then Device Manager, then expand CD/DVD ROM drives.
Easiest way to find drivers is to go to your PC manufacturer’s site; they usually have drivers there.
yeah I got there, my Drive is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7240S ATA Device. It said the following:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click ‘Check for solutions’ to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
it gave me the option to update the driver software but to no avail.
okay that worked. many, many thanks.
Thanks to the lot of ye. you’re all lads
God bless
