Did the Crystal do it?

This just popped into my head, but at the beginning of Half-Life, before the Resonance Cascade, there are constant references to how everything has been malfunctioning that morning. And for some time I assumed that this was related to the Cascade, but now im just unsure, I mean if (spoilers) the Gman brought the crystal, and it was the crystal that caused “shit to go down”, then were the malfunctions just …coincidences? or did I forget something.

I realise it’s something minor, but I was just curious :freeman:
[COLOR=‘Silver’]Sorry in advance if this has been discussed, i did a few searches and came up with nothing related.

You are forgetting that they make up teh story as they go, in original game it was the scientist fault, but as Gordon is teh hero now, they had to shift the blame onto gman ;f

Yeah I thought of that as one of the possibilities :frowning: , I guess I just always imagine the Half-Life story static and not something that goes through millions of changes (ala HL2’s initial story)

its static now, but when they went out with half life 1, nobody even though then about another game and how big will it become ;]

Yeah, that’s true. Still, if looking at it from a static story POV, odd consequence xD

yeah i think they fucked up with forcing the blame onto gman, and im pretty sure it wasnt in their plans originally, i think they regret it now, since they cat make him a cosmic watcher type of person anymore, he will be have to be the bad guy in some way ;/

The way I see it, it was caused by your typical malfeasance. The equipment wasn’t designed to do what they were trying to do (according to the scientist later known to be Eli Vance) so was malfunctioning, then they ramped up the resolution of the beam to get a clear scan of the crystal and shit got real.

I dunno if they’re actually blaming the G-Man or not. Eli’s talk with Gordon was interrupted and he never got to finish, leaving the reveal to be rather cryptic.

No, he doesn’t. Even if he was responsible, you can come up with any sort of justification for why he did that. Perhaps deliberately bringing the combine’s attention to the earth so that earth (or Freeman at least) could kick their ass before they caused problems for the rest of the universe/dimensions.

yeah but that will only make him look like a tool, overall whole ep 2 took gmans badassness down by 33% ;/

Gman has already mentioned that he does work for someone else, or perhaps several other people. He wouldn’t really be a tool if he was doing these things without caring about what the consequences were to earth. He might even seem like a good guy since he’s constantly dropping hints as to what to and what not to do. He’s supposed to be mysterious.

They mentioned in half-life 1 how they boosted the AMS to 105% and that it was the administrator who wanted a conclusive analysis of the test, and presumably why it was run at such a high level. Gman gave a warning to Eli before the resonance cascade & another warning now. If it was anyone’s falt than it was Breens. Through ignorance or otherwise.

Thanks, this summed it up great!

Also, abotu his badassness going down etc.

Really? I enjoyed him in episode 2. I dont think Valve will regret it. he was always kinda like a villan. he would always be there, but you wouldnt see him. He was perfect, because he didnt really matter till the very end, when he revealed himself (Half Life)

Gman bought in the crystal.

With teh space monez?

I think I remember seeing that he actually did buy it, but it could have been a theory or something, i dont think it was ever mentioned in the games…

Yeah, when my brother got it, it was a “free” mod that came with Counter Strike, he got both of them and Deathmatch (original) for 15 bucks, who wouldn’t kill to have gotten Half Life that cheap, knowing it would spawn so much!

Briefcase: 30$
Black leather shoes: 50$
Blue tuxedo: 200$

Mysterious, green coloured, diamond shaped, experimental alien borderworld sample which, when used to test chamber for questionable teleportation experiments in which scientist once again tamper with the fabric of the universe while neither considering nor preparing for the negative consequences of their actions, will cause the downfall of humanity: priceless

There are some things money can’t buy, for everything else there’s mastercard.
:retard:

oh man you win an internet, i almost died when i read that ;D

Why thanks xD

yes, the crystal did it, destroy the crystal

Yes,when you reach that point of the game, just take a massive dump on the crystal. And the experiment will fail (100% )And then the Gman will appear and he will slap you.
Then the credits will roll. (mm,techno music!)
THE END.
