Developer quotes on release and process

:what:
What model/level is this texture used in?

The old Natural Selection mod did that trick a lot, right? I mean the texture sizes weren’t that huge but they did fit lots of textures onto one.

Yeah, alright… So it’s probably on a level with a lot of repeating elements that only appear in the one level… Surface tension?

Oh well, looks like even the thing’s that have “gone gold” are now WIP’s again. :frowning:

I appreciate you and the rest of the team’s dedication but that’s the point of “gone gold”. And also, does your statement mean the soundtrack was generating bugs? Because that’s the only thing that was confirmed to be done forever AKA “gold”.

Fully agree with TheDragonMask on this one.
There is no point in saying something soundtrack has gone gold unless it’s defenitely NOT getting changed anymore.

Joel Nielsen ‘soundtrack gone gold’ - comment apperently didn’t mean squat.

Or perhaps Joel didn’t fully realize at that time that the implementation of the ‘gold’ soundtrack would cause necessary changes to be done.

I’m thinking the latter.

It’s pretty clearly the latter. I’m assuming in a mod of this scope that happens fairly often.

I think that the soundtrack going “gold” means that, as long as development is still ongoing, if something needs to change in the soundtrack, it can be updated, but once the mod is completed, the soundtrack is locked into place as well.

But if they need a song that lasts 2 minutes, 53 seconds and the song was only 2 minutes 48 seconds, 5 additional seconds must be added to the song. Alternatively, if they need a specific “feel” that has changed, then the song must change. But, as it stands, the soundtrack is ready to go live whenever the mod is complete (they don’t have to wait for the soundtrack to put the mod on the release schedule).

why put so much thought into this craaaaap

We got it, Joel’s “going gold” is nothing like the actual definition of “going gold”.
Don’t blame us for misunderstanding “100 % done” for “100 % done but not actually”

In the future, please do stick to the actual definitions of the words “complete” and “release” once you say the mod is complete or ready for release

Crytek/ Bethesda fans don’t seem to mind.

But I guess that’s what puts you guys above them… christ I can’t believe I said that. Why did I doing this?

I found this on the 33rd page of the Got a Question thread. Thought it might be interesting for some, considering the things we thought were set in stone are now melting away. (I’m on an insane quest to read all of that thread, as you can see I’m only around 3.7% and I’ve been at it on and off for a week)

This is another interesting one. I’m not sure but DK 2009/10/11 still hasn’t released right?

It’s been stated several times that the soundtrack thing is just a rumor, just stop getting all worked up over it.

However, the point of this thread is to organise dev quotes related to the release, and you should definately check the original post in this thread. It links to far more updated quotes like e.g.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware whether the first page was linking to the rumor, or a later confirming of the rumor by Raminator. And I agree my post wasn’t crucial or very intersting news, I’ve just been trying to liven up this place recently. (I think I’ve revived around 2-3 threads by now)

For the love of god, stop.

I’m just trying to get this forum to be less empty. It seems like their are so many bitter loners/cynics around. :brow:

Same here it really takes the pressure off. :freeman:

I don’t see anything bad on the low population rate here. Better to have only some trolls than a whole army of em.

Katana, one of the choreographers if I’m not mistaken, has been posting a lot in the “Ask the developers” thread.

“Soundtrack gone gold” was a quite dubious statement. I think you can forgive us for being excited/confused about it.

My suggestion “to please stick to the actual definition of words in the future” was not an attack to Joel, it was simply a reaction to stormseeker saying we sounded like a bunch of conspiracy theorists about this (while it shouldn’t be surprising we would, you’d start acting like one)

bottom line is: who the fuck cares? it doesnt make any difference at all to anyone but thoes who actually have access to it somehow
