Deus Ex

I’m really tired of not being able to see a damn thing outside in the Knight’s Templar Cathedral. I beat it & I want to leave without constantly walking into walls, walk blindly off the roof or constantly get raped by those damn mechs.

What cheat do I need to use to get mat_fullbright? And does Invisible War have the same problem with shitty lighting?

You DO have a flashlight, you know that, right?

The flashlight is a horrible piece of shit & so is the nightvision. If I didn’t rebind it to ‘F’ I never would have played this far into the game. Honestly, why the fuck did they put it at the farthest point on the keyboard?

Because all augmentations are on the function keys.

This thread makes me sad. I really like 1st person RPGs but I hate the setting of DE. (Sames goes for SS2 and KOTOR). I’ve tried them, tried to like them, but it’s a no go. :frowning:

Cyberpunk’s just not for everyone I guess. I liked SS2, but I can’t say I’ve played KOTOR.

No shit. But you can rebind all the other keys. To rebind those keys you need to edit the config file. Even then I need to guess which key does which because the key binding is in the icon of the augment.

I wouldn’t really call a Star Wars setting the same as DE. DE is dark and gritty (a phrase that could not be used more in descriptions of video games and movies), and SS2 is just brutally isolating. For the entire of KotOR you run around with a huge party of followers, talking to people and doing quests. Aside from the occasional orbital bombardment, there’s nothing to really tie it to either SS2 or DE.

But whatever, some things aren’t for everyone.

You probably either need to update your drivers or patch the game. I had the same problem a while back, but I don’t remember how to fix it. It should not be difficult to see except in a few areas if the game is working correctly. The problem is either your computer, your monitor, or your eyes. It’s not the game.

Deus Ex definitely exists on a very slim edge between sci-fi and reality. It was very grounded in realistic locales and (mostly) plausible technology. The only thing really cyberpunkish about DE is the plot, which is pretty far fetched (but awesome). SS2 is much further out there into cyberpunk land.

I downloaded a Glide Wrapper called nGlide. Not only can I see things clearly now, but everything looks great!

Ok, I beat the game. (& have seen the other endings on youtube) Why do all of the endings suck? Seriously, they all suck. I could have been happy with one ending if they had just been longer, but it seems like they wanted to keep them as ambiguous as possible as to not seem like they’re siding with any of them.

The first one I chose was to merge with Helios, not only was it anti-climactic in terms of gameplay, but it doesn’t say anything that happened as a result of it. He just says “we are one” followed by a still screen of a voltaire quote in all of it’s pretentious laziness.

The tong ending was still shitty, but was at least a tad more exciting, what with all the explosions, but still not a “good” ending as far as I’m concerned.

The ending where you side with the illuminati just makes me feel like nothing’s been accomplished, and aside from the vaccine everything is just going back to the status quo.

And from what I’ve read Invisible War mainly follows the tong ending, but JC still merged with Helios, as if that makes any sense.

At least they aren’t black and white. IMO Deus Ex has the best multiple endings of any game I can think of, because they are not all either evil or not. And do you really want a complete history of what happens? Its either going to be everything goes to plan, in which case you should know, or everything goes wrong, in which case you get annoyed that you had no control over it. It works as is.

As a fun side note, the entire point of the illuminati is that you maintain the status quo. That was said about ten times throughout the game.

This is the canonical ending. Nothing to do with Tong afaik. I wouldn’t bother with Invisible War. It’s absolute shit.

More Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Brother and I fought through the levels collecting all the KONG letters in order to unlock the final Golden Temple level. After doing all of that we unlocked… Mirror Mode. DANGIT IT NINTENDO! Why you ever think that’s a reward, I’ll never know.

I believe you’ve got the wrong thread.

Come on now. It was a bad Deus Ex sequel, but it’s a fairly decent game when taken on its own, which is probably the most we can expect from Human Revolution as well.

Why bother have multiple endings if only one will matter once the sequel comes out? At least with clearly good & clearly evil endings, the good one is usually the ‘real’ ending.

No, but something more than JC just saying “you know that thing we’ve talked about doing? yeah, we did that” would have actually constituted an ending as far as I’m concerned. It was just a cliffhanger.

And I wanted to stop them the entire game. See the problem?

Seeing how hyped this game was by everyone & how disappointing it was to me, I’d probably like Invisible War, while I know it won’t be as ‘complex’ as the first one was, the fact that so many people are complaining about it is a good sign that something has been changed dramatically. Knowing me, it’s probably something I hated, like not having to stealth everywhere & just simply shoot people.

Because the sequel doesn’t matter. Also, why are you complaining about the illuminati ending?

Crap, what was I thinking. Sorry about that guys.

Because:

a) Choice is awesome. The entire of Deus Ex is about choosing how you want to play, giving you a variety of options on how to progress, who to align yourselves with and, most importantly, how to shape the world when you come to control that decision. Taking that away because some overseeing computer developer says “NAY, THOU SHALT ABIDE BY MINE DECISION” defeats that entire objective in one fell swoop.

b) Games are self contained entities and should be judged in their own right. Deus Ex is probably the best example of how bad sequels can be, and how they shouldn’t spoil the name of the brand in general.

c) The sequel, in that case, apparently incorporated some demented hybrid version of the endings, so it was worth playing through all the endings to try and understand the damn thing.

I think that Invisible War was probably an okay game, but was just considered terrible because it lived in the shadow of its predecessor. I should really play it.
