Dear Esther Graphics update

if this just became a Myst appreciation thread count me the hell in. :stuck_out_tongue:

the first game that i ever played on my pc. made me fall in love with gaming as a storytelling medium. on my personal top 10 list of best games of all time and easily one of the top(if not #1) point and click games of all time along with Grim Fandango, secret of monkey island, and, of course, myst’s sequel Riven^_^

god i just found the disk and am reinstalling

What is mist?

In general, graphical adventure video games.

Fix’d

And those of you who are asking this question need to go click on the link I posted and buy this game. Even if you end up totally hating it’s guts, you should at least know what it is.

Holy shit I just came.

In buckets?

[COLOR=‘Red’]HOLY COCKSHITTING COOKIE TIN !

Goddamnit man ! i’ve played through this mod 5 times already ! I’m playing it again ! Who the hell needs tesselation to make shit look good ?

Also, Korsakovia was fucking fantastic.

Yeah, who needs the Source Engine?!

Unreal Dev Kit is an amazing thing on the part of Epic MegaGames.

If it does indeed seem better than CryEngine 3, it doesn’t seem to have much practical application. All I’ve seen are caves, foliage, dirt, and a lighthouse and as Kaddo’s post points out, it comes with a heavy performance hit.

The impressive part is he made a 6 year old engine look (pretty much) as good as a cutting edge modern engine.

it’s a short story by stephen king or something

The Mist is the novella by Stephen King, Dark Tower is the Graphic Novel based roughly on The Mist and Myst is a point and click graphical adventure game.

And yes, holly shit Dear Esther is beautiful!

Honestly, Source is a fairly capable engine, and even still, graphics hasn’t been its main selling point since it was first released.

Valve isn’t about “OMGZORZ 5TR1LL10N P0L13Z P3R S3COND PWNIN TEH COMPETITIONZ SUNSHAFTZ N BLOOMZ N SH1NEY EVERYWHEREZ!!!” like 90% of the rest of the games industry is. They specifically worked to make sure Source could scale down REALLY far and have pretty damn low system requirements, and to make up for it, they spend a HELL of a lot of time on art direction, so the way the resources are used ends up resembling life extremely well, and so you don’t even NOTICE it’s not that advanced unless you’re a graphics whore and you’re looking for it.

Also, what are “caustic effects”? Does this thing cause the video card to spew corrosive liquids all over and burn holes in your computer case or something?
[color=black]Also, Myst sucks and has really obtuse puzzles.

Watch the video and look at the ground beneath the water

I was wondering when there would be a thread about the Esther remake. It really makes you realize how shitty the coastline in HL2 looked :stuck_out_tongue:

caustic effects refers to the light refraction you see sometimes in liquids and pools of water. Black Mesa seems to be incorporating the effect to a degree

lol it’s nowhere near as advanced as Cryengine 2 or 3.

neither is your mum mate

True, my mom is like the GoldSrc engine.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
