Cyborg R.A.T. 9

I need a new mouse. I’ve been using an MX1000 laser for about 5-6 years, but the left click is wearing out. Price is not too much of a concern because I will keep the mouse for as long as possible, hopefully at least 5 years. I prefer mice with a lot of buttons. The MX1000 has 5 including left and right click, so I need at least that.

Anyone own of these:

It has 7 buttons (including left and right click), not to mention i love its customization options and utilitarian design. There is also a R.A.T. 7 and I think the only difference is its wired.

Can anyone recommend the R.A.T.?

I would accidentally hit the extra buttons all the damn time if I had one of those. How do you manage that?

I will always be a fan of the basic optic Logitec or Microsoft mouse.

Well like i said, my mouse has 5 buttons, two are left/right click and three of them are extra. One being the mouse wheel click and the other two are buttons for your thumb. I NEVER accidentally hit them because they are not positioned on the mouse “grips,” they are conveniently located NEXT to your thumb and they are very intuitive:

(there is also a circular mini button between the two thumb buttons, and buttons above and below the mouse wheel. I do not think they work in games and I do not use them)

I will never be able to go back to a mouse with less than 5 buttons total. Think about it. With a normal mouse you use two fingers, index and middle finger. Why not put two or three buttons parallel to your thumb? Your thumb just sits there, not really doing anything. With normal web browsing for instance, those two buttons are used for page forward and page back, both invaluable mouse functions.

That first one is the most ridiculous mouse I’ve ever seen. It looks like it belongs in the future. :what:

Functionality is most important to me. Besides, it looks that way because it is so utilitarian and customizable. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I’m using the logitech revolution since ~ 2 years now, not much of a difference compared to the mx1000 I think. Slightly different design, 6 buttons, 8 functions (main scroll wheel can be tilted for sideways scrolling or custom function), battery, charger… Even got an extra ‘wheel’ on the thumb.

I didn’t buy it for that purpose, but the configurable free-spin and click-to-click behavior of the wheel is really comfortable as well. If money isn’t a concern, I can only recommend it.

I don’t see that mouse lasting too long at all. To many buttons/moving parts whatever. Anything that is geared for “High Performance” tends to not last long. I had a Fatality Mouse back when I first built my system and I started having trouble right off the bat with the left click. And that was one of those high performance gaming mouses. It was garbage all the way. If I were you I would stick with logitech…

The concern i have with longevity are the electronics and, unfortunately, one cannot determine that from pictures. The physical mechanics of the mouse look solid however, its not like I throw my mouse around in fits of rage.

Besides at least 5 buttons, all I want is a comfortable mouse that mimics the shape of one’s grip. Most mice, IMO, feel like complete shit in my hand and have an awkward shape. This is why I was considering the cyborg: lotta buttons + customizable shape.

If i do go with logitech, it will probably be an mx1100.

There are no stores that have that mouse in stock?

Pictures also really cannot tell how rigid or flimsy that mouse is built and will feel. 130 bucks is a big gamble for a mouse no one seems to know anything about. Unless of course it has a good warranty. But it could be the best buy for any mouse. I’m just a pessimist when it comes to mouses.

I actually havent looked in any stores yet, Ive just started researching. Unfortunately I have a shit selection when it comes to stores in my area, but I will certainly see if I can find it in person.

Perhaps someone has some first hand experience and can contribute.

I’m 17 and I’ve had 3 mice in my life.
Old 3 button mouse when I got Windows 95. That lasted for 3 years, after that got a two button + scroll mouse with my Windows 98, used that one for 6 years till the wire came loose and then got my current mouse for 4 bucks or so, again, a 2 button + scroll mouse.
The more the buttons the more annoying it gets, I used a mouse at a friends place for a week that kept going back on websites, rubbish.

Ive already established that I always use and want at least 5 buttons on my mouse. I really don’t need moronic opinions like “less buttons is better.” You have to be an idiot to accidentally hit mouse buttons to the point of annoyance. Thats your problem, because i certainly do not have that issue. It sounds like you have uncontrollable thumb tremors…or just suck with technology in general.

There is no way I can play modern games with only two buttons on my mouse. Why not have buttons on the side of a mouse? Your thumb sits there doing NOTHING. Am i really in the minority here?

Dont know why you mentioned your age, but Im 25 and have been using mice with multiple buttons for about 10 years and have never found it annoying. On the contrary those buttons are HELPFUL.

Check this out.

The R.A.T. 9 is fucking hideous.

I have a Logitech MX518 mouse and I never use the two extra buttons on the side…

Thanks, another useless post. I do not care what the fuck you think it looks like, I care MORE about performance than aesthetics. If you don’t have first hand experience STFU.

Not using the buttons means your an idiot who doesn’t like change. Why try and cram game functions around WASD when there are two easily accessible buttons on your mouse? :retard:

Someone’s getting a little touchy… You should know by now that you don’t always get useful / on-topic posts around here…

I just get a little touchy because for some reason people feel the need to chime in for no important reason. Seriously, what kind of contribution did Maxey or Erikkiller provide?

I do accept the fact that I may not get answers I am looking for, but I really do not need pointless opinions. If one has nothing contribute, dont post.

I’d say don’t go wired if you can help it. My wire trails up behind my desk and pulls my mouse something fierce. Also gets caught on things on my desk (like my lappy, which sites beside my screen).

Recommendations depend on what exactly you wish to use the mouse for. Do you play more twitch-shooters or MMOs? Do you really need the 6.5k dpi? There’s cheaper alternatives if you don’t. Do you need more control, precision (mapping in hammer, 3D software, that stuff needs it) or do you need speed?

Also the shape of the mouse is important; ergonomics>appearance. How do you prefer your mice? Do you rest your entire palm on it or do you claw it? Prefer large or small, heavy or light?

Thanks for your post.

I also prefer wireless, granted that the connection is solid with no lag. I mainly game and browse the web. I prefer shooters and third person action/adventure. I dont play MMOs.

Like I mentioned, performance > aesthetics to me. I prefer a larger mouse that fills my hand. For instance, I wish my MX1000 was larger and heavier, it is too small for me. The two reasons I am considering the RAT9 are comfort/size/weight/grip customizations and the extra buttons. Luckily money is not an issue and I plan to keep the mouse for at least a few years. BTW, the RAT7 is the wired version of the RAT9.

Also, I happen to like the design and aesthetics. Its has a utilitarian design for a reason, functionality. Its design reflects its purpose and IMO, that is beautiful. Like I said however, looks are not important and do not impact my decision. Anyone who favors aesthetics OVER functionality are idiots.

EDIT: this video features the ergonomic adjustments that are available with the RAT.

As far as ergonomics go this mouse is cool because the ergonomics are adjustable. I’d say go for it. If I had spare dough to use I would try it just to see if it’s worth the cause.

:frowning: … You’re using it wrong :expressionless:
