Honestly they could do the best of both worlds for this. Instead of NYC, why not Thailand? Start in the jungle or whatever they got and make your way to Bangkok, which is not small by any means. And it would be a place that is not so overused in games and movies.

I thought it was obvious that it would take place in a city, they released a tech demo showing off a city running on Cryengine 3 months ago.

FYI I don’t think the new CryEngine 3 will be more demanding than CryEngine 2, it will probably be scaled down to be playable on consoles, which they’ve shown a tech demo for.
Whether that effects the PC verision, I don’t know, but it’s a possibility.

I’m excited, but I wish they’d chosen a place more original than New York - that city’s been cliched to no end, being the setting for virtually every alien invasion, natural disaster, sci-fi epic and drama known to man.
I think games such as Half-Life 2 showed us that there’s a certain appeal and beauty to run-down, anonymous cities that aren’t so popular with tourists. It gives it a more plausible feel to it. Not to say I’m not excited though.

Two problems:

- Never use the phrase “gnarly”. Ever.
The first is fun and awesome, but jungle settings aren’t really my thing, still nice though.
So yeah, I’m looking forward to this.
If the buildings were fully destroyable then it is possible that you could make your own path from one part of it to another, because lets face it, if you are in the city you have to go into a building eventually. Instead of having to find stairs and elevators, you could possibly throw a desk through a wall, and fallow through the hole you make. And with strength mode, you could even blow a hole in the ceiling and jump up to the floor above. Not a very realistic method of travel through a building, but one that sounds fun to me.
i think it needs a massive gameplay overhaul more than anything. In the first one, the gameplay wasn’t all that good. Crysis 2 needs better AI, Weapon coding, Health system and other elements which were severely lacking in the first one.
Times a million. The AI in the Far Cry/Crysis games has always pissed me off.
Why NYC god dammit? I was hoping it would be set in an Asian city, since they would be closer to the island then anywhere else. Meh.
Tokyo would be fun.
Tokyo is what the tech demo reminded me of. Imagine gunning down invading Koreans with bright flashing sex vending machines lining the streets, flashing and blinking and being generally distracting.
