Crysis 2:MAXIMUM FACEPALM

I enjoyed it. I’m not going to worship it as the greatest game ever made, but I plan on buying the sequels until they start completely sucking.

For me, Crysis was an interesting experience. I spent more time sight seeing then I did playing. The forest was actually more attractive then the area in which I live, so I used it as a place to explore. It really seemed that the developers spent most of their time developing an amazingly powerful engine and designing an amazing environment, then realized they had to have a story and game play and tacked them on at the last minute.

The whole FUN in Crysis was tearing apart those horribly constructed sheet metal shacks with my bear hands and throwing the bits at helicopters that foolishly thought they were safe from the air. (Which is why I thought the latter portion was miserably lame; the ice put a hard stop to the great physics trickery, which happened to be the game’s most important feature, and the ice effects completely shattered the performance).

If they move it to a city, there is no way that will happen unless they’ve hired a small country to do art assets and expect everyone to play this on the equivalent of WETA’s render farm.

The performance hit is not the games fault, ur hardware just cant handle it.

I consider it the game’s fault when the average frame rate decreases by half after a significant chunk of the game (and from there on out), especially when the issue does not appear with any other visual effect.

Part of good game development is maintaining stable performance, because a rapidly fluctuating frame rate will pull players out of the game and force them to tinker with settings. Their testing process should have identified the inconsistent draw on resources compared to other stuff in the game and, if they were interested in providing a decent tech demo (something that said “hey, this thing scales!”), they would have implemented a functioning fallback.

He’s got a point

Crysis is a demanding game aimed at enthusiasts with powerfull computers.

meh i like crysis hes a pretty cool guy cuz he shoots aleins and shit and dosent afraid of my grafix card

Enthusiasts of whom 95% still can’t run the game on highest settings, 2 years after release… is it just me or does that make crysis seem a little bit… ahead of its time?

And yet despite that, their still making another one, on an new, more visually awesome and computer overheating engine. My rig can currently run crysis at the highest settings @60fps, but i think it’ll require a 5970 to run Crysis 2: U CAN’T RUN MAXIMUM SETTINGS.

I still don’t get the big deal here. Did people facepalm when they learnt that Half Life 2 wouldn’t take place in a research institute? It really is a stupid idea to think that a location change is bad. I’m looking forward to it.
Also, if you can run Crysis on medium, it still looks incredible. Consider High and Very High nice extras.

Eternalness was rather restrained there, it took a whole 3 posts to whip out his e-penis comparing using his overkill computer.
Well held back there son.
.

hahaha!

I think the environment changing would be good good for Crysis. Lets just say that if they decided to stick with the jungle scene allot of people wouldn't be happy. Now that they decide on a new scene people don't like it... You can't please everyone bottom line.

I personally think that the devs will think of creative ways to make the game play compelling. And I look forward to the new Crysis. Even if it does run like shit on my system.

Im workin on it

Sexy graphics in a urban environment? Cool.

good to see its on consoles this time so it can be enjoyed by peopel other than obsessive saddos who really like random collections of letters and numbers

dont think it had anything to actually do with farcry or crytek but i realy enjoyed far cry 2

Don’t worry. You’re not alone. I spent hours just finding different paths to do things in that game. And finding new ways to blow up shacks

Edit: nutsack, quit double-posting, asshole.

What other games have you been playing that take place in a jungle? Not saying there aren’t any, but I haven’t seen an overwhelming number of FPS games with jungle environments.

the first smart post in this thread, if there was another damn jungle like farcry or crysis i would of exploded, i think the crysis engine in NYC with aliens and such will be amazing.
