Coolest Mods

What are some of the coolest mods that you have played/made for the Source or GoldSrc Engine? I liked Research and Development for HL2:EP2.

I heard Black Mesa is really cool.

I’ll have to check that out it, sounds cool! :stuck_out_tongue:

True true, you don’t have to play it, to know, that its awesome :3

I really liked Nightmare House and I’m excited about the second part. (Hopefully coming out this year

There’s already a thread about mods.
Oh well.
The Snatcher Crysis Wars mod looks bitchin’.

Black Mesa is nowhere near as cool as Balck Meas

I heard they are making Balck Meas for GoldSrc

BUT I will recommend Minerva Metastasis

I never played a lot of mods…too many to choose from and not enough time lol.

I did play “They Hunger” however. Good fun, I was hoping the remake was going to be a success but I doubt it will ever see the light of day.

Insurgency is fun…but only if you like that kind of game…

Zombie Panic is amazing…if you don’t mind bad models and animations…

Provenance is a really cool one, but it’s short…

Dawn is kinda cool…wish they had done more with it…

Black Mesa is dead dudes…

Coop:
Sven Co-op (Goldsource) - awesome, but not for those who are hardcore HL fans. If you don’t mind new and/or improved weapons, enemies and abilities, then SC is a great coop game.

SP:
(all Source)
Human Error: Not quite a good representation of what it’s like to be a Combine CP imho, but still fun. Three words: remote control manhacks.
Get a Life: pretty cool so far. Has some interesting game play (weird black & white dream sequences), but one thing I don’t like is the manual healing gets kind of annoying pretty quickly (haven’t finished it yet).
Strider Mountain: I keep hearing this one is very good, so I’m about to try it out.
EDIT: First few levels seem pretty good so far - but a few minor things irked me right off the bat: no crowbar; instead, you get an ice ax-looking thingy with “STRIDER MOUNTAIN” written on it. And I can’t quite figure out how or why the pistol holds 33 rounds :what:
Oh, and it has scripted flashback cut-scenes showing you (as Gordon), receiving instructions on what your mission is. Cool, but in one of them, Gordon’s leg kept twitching weirdly as if he was itching to get the hell out of the briefing room

Minerva if you haven’t played it yet. One of the few polished mods.

Research and Development (requires EP2) is one of my favourites.

Too Many Crates has been one of my most enjoyable playing experiences. do a search for it on PlanetPhillip.com

Cinematic mod, Hl2: Substance, CSS SCi-FI, Minerva: Metastasis, Coastline to Atmosphere, BMS (when it comes out)

My favorite HL1 mods:
Point of View
Residual Point
Azure Sheep

Cinematic mod is sweet! I downloaded mod 10…the detail is amazing when completely maxed out with all the custom HD models. The gameplay is also greatly improved with optional ironsights and much more realistic weapons/accuracy. Basically its what HL2 and the episodes should have been. I do want to add though, these changes do not translate to a tactical mod…it still plays like HL2.

You mean complete garbage with no soul?

I can understand disagreeing with how the changes were implemented, but how does drastically improving the textures, modifying the AI, adding optional ironsights, and actually designing the weapons to look and behave realistically remove the soul from HL2…the story and level design weren’t altered.

I am sorry but the weapons and combat in HL2 was unimpressive IMO. HL2 added only two new weapons (gravity gun and the unimpressive pulse rifle) and removed others (loved the tao cannon and gluon gun from HL…but I understand them being excluded from HL2). They could have at least re-skinned and altered the recycled weapons to make them a little fresh, but they didn’t. I couldn’t believe they implemented the EXACT same crossbow from the original HL.

The accuracy and programming for the pistol, SMG, and pulse rifle is horrible…all you can do is spray your target until they die (good luck attempting to pick off headshots, like it even fucking matters). I am sorry, but bullets are a little more accurate than HL2 will have you believe. This, combined with the AI tendencies of the combine and ant lions, the combat got a little stale. Not to mention HL2 had practically no gore…at least it feels like my guns are doing damage with the cinematic mod. They certainly improved the gore without overdoing it.

Basically, weapons and combat in HL2 were lacking and I feel the cinematic mod greatly improves these elements. The MP5 in the cinematic mod is so damn satisfying lol.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
