I find it damn hard to play with a controller when it comes to a FPS game(i dont own an Xbox but i play on my friends one). Why is it that people still use the controller? I find it slower than the mouse when it comes to looking around and specially when someones shooting at you. Do you guys do it out of tradition?
Chill, im not ranting against controllers or people who use them, im just curious and i want to know why. Would you guys prefer to use a plug that allows you to play with a mouse and keyboard like this? Or do you think the controller is more elite than keyboard and mouse?
Is the XFPS reliable and would u get instant reactions when using it?
I would honestly not use a setup like that because the XFPSās only seeming reliability is that is does not translate your mouse movements well. By all accounts, its crap.
I find a mouse much easier for FPSs, but unfortunately most of my gaming is done on console. Still, some games have nice features that work around it somewhat
For vehicle games and third person games I prefer a controller, and for flight a joystick. Also, the analogue control you get with a controller is nice
Both controllers and keyboards suck! Imma just do nothing until they invent the mind powered controller. In all seriousness Iād use a keyboard for shooting and a controller for anything else even though Iām better with a controller.
I prefer the mouse and keyboard, but I probably wouldnāt want a setup for my console.
The console is usually in a position where a controller is just more convenient than a mouse and keyboard so while I avoid FPSās on the console Iām just find using a controller for anything else while away from the computer.
Console FPS are made in a way that gameplay wonāt be too hectic for the slower and less accurate control of the gamepads and so it works well.
The PC Keyboard + mouse setup allows for much more precise and quick movement and so games can be harder.
Itās all about context. Consoles are traditionally played on the comfort of the couch, where it would be awkward to have a keyboard + mouse setup, while with PC gaming, youāre playing on a desk which allows the k+b setup to work.
Of course, skill also plays a role here, since as easily you can be a pc fps god with the k+b setup, you can also be a gamepad/console fps god.

This man is correct.
Plus, some games are just meant to be played with a KB+M, such as most RTS and MMOās, or any game that typically has a large and complicated interface/controls.
I prefer KB+M for FPS and controller for 3rd person and driving games.
I would go into detail why the analog sticks are not as accurate for FPS games as a mouse, but Iām too lazy for that and I donāt think my English skills would be sufficient to accurately expose my technical knowledge on the matter.
Hopefully this will explain my stance on the issue. If for some zany reason the images donāt show up for people, then just go to where the original pictures are hosted at PlanetPhillip.com
(Note: Joystick reversal script is only needed for HL2, which had a glitch that reverses left and right when driving a vehicle. The episodes do not suffer from this issue)
Provided the developers have provided a manual keybinding system that supports inputs from a gamepad, this setup can be used and is the best Iāve ever experienced. You have the precision of aiming that the mouse provides, but with the comfort and ease of a gamepad. The Half Life series in particular is the best with this setup as it even properly tracks the analog joystick movement, which allows you to shift between slow movement and fast movement simply by how far you press the joystick, and it also allows you complete 360 range of movement rather than only 8 directions.
(There are programs like Xpadder out that allow you to map keyboard buttons to the gamepad, but this doesnāt allow for analog movement which makes for very touchy controls)
While the mouse provides a distinct advantage in terms of aiming, the keyboard provides no particular advantage other than having numerous quick keys. Many of these could be made completely superfluous through the use of on-screen popup menus and contextual action buttons.
Ultimately the only time Keyboard and Mouse is undeniably better than gamepad is for Real Time Strategy and First Person Shooters, everything else can be at least as good or better using a gamepad that has proper controls. If developers would get off their asses and support the Wii remote and Nunchuck properly, then gamepads would be just as good or better for everything even including RTS and FPS.
I usually donāt shamelessly promote my steam group, but just click on the āno keyboardā icon I have in my signature below, and itāll take you to a place that Iāve been trying to gather information on decent examples of games that are better without the keyboard. I havenāt been updating it recently, but Iām hoping to get back to it once I complete a few more projects Iām in the middle of.
Controllers are just fine for everything except for RTS and MMORPG.
Darkness on PS3 was a jolly good experience to me.
I absolutely enjoyed playing UT 3 with a controller as well, as it gives extra chaos to deathmatches because you cannot rely on skill and precision anymore (which gets REALLY boring during PC matches). I love when you randomly own someone with a direct hit from the RL. Anyway, itās hard to describe with words, you have to play it yourself to understand what I mean.
And analog sticks is an awesome invention overall.
BTW Grey Acumen, pretty nice setup, I think I would give it a shot some time later.
