Computer Wishlist

I recently finished my wishlist on newegg for a future computer of mine (hopefully).

I’m hoping to get some feedback as to what could be improved and what could be cut back on, although I did make some significant cut backs already.

The link doesn’t work, you need to make the wishlist public and then post the public link to it.

I did, I guess I need to copy the link FROM the public wish list list.

I’ll edit the link when my list is actually added to the wish lists. -.-

EDIT: Link fixed (at least it should be)

Here you go, you don’t have to wait for it to show up:

EDIT: Some suggestions. If you want to cut back:
8gb RAM isn’t necessary for most gamers, the CPU cooler isn’t the best for the money (see the hyper 212+, but buy it elsewhere not on newegg as newegg price gouges for this a lot), I would get the Antec Earthwatts 650 as it’s cheaper and still a good PSU, I’d buy an ATX sized motherboard for an ATX case just to have more PCI options, I’d get a better case (you don’t want to cut back too much in this department), and I’d buy a better videocard as you can have much better performance for not much more (thinking more in terms of Radeon HD 6850).

Thanks man

EDIT: The advice can begin anytime now… no rush… at all…

why an obsolete series Radeon? The HD 6— series is out. And what are your expectations from this rig?

I am hoping to replace my current Dell XPS 410 (Dimension 9200?) with a better performing; less restriction; better gaming rig.

I have replaced some of the parts already on the list.
The reason I chose the mobo I did was because I was trying to find a mobo that supported the new Intel iCore cpu’s.

That reminds me, where’s the processor? I’d suggest an i5 2500k.

 I can’t believe I forgot that…

you could easily re-use the old cd rom drive and case from your old PC.

That’s the thing… Dell has almost everything tied down in huge plastic covers with screws that require a screw-driver longer than a black man’s dick to unscrew.

I might be able to get the CD Drive, though… not sure.

EDIT: I also found a realistically sized mobo that is compatible with the i5 2500k!

EDIT2: I’m also not sure what case to get. :frowning:

P.S. This is my first time making a PC.

of course it would just be temporary until you can afford a better case

Hell, I’m not even sure if the mobo will fit in it and whether or not all the PCI slots will be available to me. I’d prefer to buy all of this at the same time if possible, so it may be a little while before I get any of this.

EDIT: But I may buy it bit by bit so as to avoid an “out of stock” issue when I do want to buy it.

Just remember the spacers.

Haven’t looked at his old pc specs but, how old is it? we talking Sata or IDE drive connections?

My PC, now, only has SATA plugins, so it’s “newish” I suppose, but I got it around 2004 or 2005.

EDIT: Also, can someone help me in finding a computer case, I’ve been looking and I can’t find anything that fits the rear usb ports, audio jacks, etc. Although, all of them have the correct number of PCI slots.

that craps jsut on like a standard size metal plate thinger on the motherboard man

I’m sorry, I didn’t understand any of that.

What are the specs of your current system? It might be worthwhile to upgrade it slightly, with a better video card for instance. Unless you’re just dying to play some new game, I would wait until Bulldozer is released (wikipedia says second half of 2011) and see where the processor market goes then. By that time, the videocards and processors that are new and expensive today (AMD 69xx series, Geforce GTX 5xx series, 2nd gen i5/i7 processors, etc.) will drop in price. Then again, its arguably pointless to wait for the “newer, better tech” since today’s new tech is tomorrow’s obsolete tech, but I digress.

In short: I’d wait a few months. Earn some more money, wait for new AMD processors to come out and for prices to drop. In the meanwhile maybe upgrade the videocard in your current PC.

he said any case will fit your board bro, as long as the motherboard is the right size (full tower vs ATX vs mATX) the ports on the back are just a placeholder, the back plate that goes there actually comes with the motherboard, and your PCI slots will always be aligned, even in the DELL case. It’s the ATX 2.0 standard.
