Cinematic Effects in BM

i officially love depressed panda more than anything for the time being.

the houndeye legs?

yeah, the polygons look folded in on themselves. :stuck_out_tongue:

they really don’t

…at least make an effort into understanding whats going on in the picture rather then pulling something out of your arse so it could fit the topic at hand.

Haha, “cinematic lensing” what the hell.

shrug… from the screenshot it looks a bit like a screen overlay that’s distorting what’s behind it. figured it seemed to kind of be relevant. nvm. :frowning:

Yes, I would also like to see cinematic shadows.

Thats the houndeye’s attack fx.

OMG REALLY?

I’m all hard for the cinematic textures :3

I now accept that blurs and glows and overlays and blood splatter effects do count as cinematic effects; wheras distortion-type effects don’t.
I also realise now that “lensing” isn’t an appropriate term for said type of distortion effect. Neither is it appropriate to prefix said term with the word ‘cinematic’ when you feel that said effect is being used cinematically.
Apologies; I didn’t get that memo.
I also obviously missed the clear explanation that went along with that image that pointed out that this was the houndeye basic attack, which always looks like this, and which clearly doesn’t count as being a cinematic effect.

Putting the word cinematic in front of anything is pretty retarded imo. It doesn’t really mean anything, the whole cinematic physics thing seems like it’s just semi scripted half fakery physics which are meant to look cool.
Any other effects are just that, effects. Only thing i can really consider cinematic effects are those that attempt to mimmick camera effects from movies, such as film grain/sratches/dust, lens flare and perhaps motion blur. While motion blur might be something that also occurs in the human eye to some extent, there shouldn’t be a need to simulate it, a high enough framerate will create “real” motion blur in the eyes of the player.
Blood splatter on the monitor isn’t really a cinematic effect, (even though it sorta breaks the fourth wall seeing as it acknowledges a “camera” or monitor, seeing as blood splatter like that would be impossible otherwise unless there’s some helmet or protective eyewear. ), reason why i don’t consider this cinematic is simply because this hasn’t really been seen in movies, only film i can think of that uses that effect is children of men and games have had that effect for a lot longer.

/me fap speedy :awesome:

While I don’t want to see Blood splatter on the screen in BM, Gordon does have glasses.

I think blood splatters on the screen would be nice, That’s my opinion though. Only minimal amount. Like those in District 9, they were quite awesome.

What I never liked was when you got shot in HL2, you had that soft red glow indicting where you were getting hurt from, I never liked that.

I don’t want Black Mesa to be the most realistic game ever, complete with raspberry jam, iron sights, regenerating health, and normal uranium in isotope boxes.

Well it’s definitely going to be in my top 10 of all games. HL1 is there, and so’s HL2.
So HL1xHL2= Better than sex.

Well he… Uhm, I mean… Uhh…

HELMET! :fffuuu:

runs

they should be called Micheal Bay physics.
