I’m not really SET on anything other than the fact that I remember some one from Valve stating they never actually gave the female character from Portal the name Chell it was something that was derived from the disambiguious phrases of glados at one point in the first Portal. I believe that since the “community” derived Chells name as Chell… Valve which seems to be very community oriented (see post about new pricing) like to give us a bit of the carrott and see where it leads us.

IMO I didn’t like Portal 2 as much as the first as it seemed the premise changed. I like the idea they added story line but it seemed the gear had switched to push story instead of the focus being on the puzzles. Even Portal Prelude although adding to the story wasn’t story driven. I also felt gypted in that the end boss was pretty much a repeat performance. Its my opinion anyways. I feel seriously bent over that I paid full price, even the coop was kinda of lame as far as the puzzles went. Maybe its because I played the first through eleventy billion times, but each time there is still challenge. I feel like I can just coast through all parts of the second. I only died 3 times which is something to be said :S

How about: Chell’s character is a female “Lab Rat” used for SCIENCE! And female, well because, Valve has never had a game where the player controls a female protagonist. …And SCIENCE!

? Seemed the same to me…

It was still pretty puzzle-based. I found that they almost had to force the reasons you were still solving puzzles at all. I didn’t quite buy the whole thing about Aperture building giant testing spheres while they were still making money off salt, asbestos and curtains, and the whole “itch” bit in my opinion was just an excuse to keep you testing during the last couple chapters.

Portal Prelude was a fan-made mod. Don’t compare the two.

I actually really loved it. It was a nice throwback, and it was supposed to be. Even the music was reminiscent of the original GLaDOS battle, and the extra added parts with the bomb-proof shields and smashing the goo pipe were there to keep it a little fresh, anyway.

Are you saying you didn’t get the same sense of euphoria as everyone else when you and your partner had to smack into each other in mid-air?

? I honestly don’t know what you mean here. Do you mean you have amnesia after every time you play, and don’t remember how to do the puzzles each time you come back? Please elaborate. (I replayed the first game after Portal 2 and it was severely underwhelming. comparatively, all the puzzles were repetitive, unimaginative, and drawn-out)

Well it’s not Valve’s fault you’re an MLG puzzler genius, now is it?

I thought it was a pretty well made Fan Mod, it just opened up enough of the story for make it interesting while “staying true” to the original feel of the game

I guess i was expecting maybe I giant robot with be stamping action or aerial faith plates and I dunno… it was definitely different and more difficult but… i dunno I was hoping for robots and just a different fighting style.

Ok well that was the ONLY part where i actually got stuck in the hole game and things didn’t seem obvious… yeah that part was pretty good.

It seems that in the first one you had to time things just right, I don’t have complete amnesia but it seems the exact timing and position of things makes it a bit different.

Not true. There are Portal gun Tests in which Cave is not sick, and why develop a portal gun if it doesn’t work anywhere other than the moon under normal circumstances?

I think it’s just that it works the best with moon dust, not that it doesn’t work on other surfaces.

One of the properies of moon dust… is that apparently its more “square” or less rounded anyways than regular sand. It’s pretty much the same as regular sand/dust, but because it hasn’t been tectonic movement, water erosion and such its able to hold its shape a little better… its true… I seen it on myth busters lol!

PS Where is said Comic I keep hearing about… I’m participating in a conversation in which I have no real idea what this comic is all about :stuck_out_tongue:

don’t forget though, GLaDOS talks to Chell in Portal 1 about BYDTWD coming up, and seeing as Chell has no parents, how could that possibly be her as a 10-12 year old in the potato battery competition, as she is testing, and then put back into sleep after she kills GLaDOS, so that isn’t really possible, also, wheatley didn’t do any scans, he just said that sometimes people experience brain damage, how do we know that Chell isn’t one of the lucky ones, and didn’t actually get brain damage, maybe she just doesn’t speak?

GLaDOS says that Chell has no parents. Then she said that Chell’s parents don’t want her anymore, trying to “call” her parents and getting that suspiciously worded “voice mail” recording.

And Wheatley is…well, Wheatley.

Although the Potato experiment that Chell works on mentions growth serums that she got off Daddy to use on her potato, hence the gigantic mega potato growing out of her display. What if she got contaminated with said growth serum, could explain said age discrepancy’s she could be a stubborn 15/16 year old with a 20 year old body. She gives every one the silent treatment because she’s moody and doesn’t give a fuck.

VALVe made Chell a vague character for the sole purpose of letting the community put together their own theories and ideas about her background.
This makes it more fun and intreguing to play.

By the looks of this thread, I’d say VALVe did well.
