Call of Duty: Black Ops

Due to the name I thought it would be something like CoD meets Splinter Cell, so I am pretty disappointed that it is just another CoD…

For those of you that are familiar with CoD since the first game, it’s just the same thing all over again with some new models, animations and textures. At the Vietnam scene my nightmare came true, just like every other CoD game you just sit on a hill shooting enemies that spawn in a loop untill you reach a certain point and trigger a new script. It’s just so boring. As usual the AI hasn’t changed a bit, they’re probably still using the code from CoD1 because 99% of the enemies still have magical aim and always shoot at you instead of friendly AI. Kinda sad because the game started well, I liked how they presented the story.

From a modders point of view, the game has barely changed at all since CoD4, it feels more like another recycled version of the previous game. But yeah, we all know why they’re releasing a new game every year so this doesn’t really come to me as a surprise.

I kinda saw MW2’s singleplayer as being very epic and cinematic, just not very replayable or as fun as other games.
$60 is a lot for me, and I’m not so keen on supporting Activision at the moment. I’ll definitely try it if there’s a free weekend sometime, or if the price drops majorly (not likely in a COD game)

facts:

  1. i got bored if it faster than MW2
  2. graphics STILL suck (on consoles, atleast)

I dunno what it is about multiplayer, It just doesn’t do it for me. But I’ll be sure to give it a shot on a mate’s console, see what the fuss is about

From what I’ve seen this new version incorporates some fun gamemodes like gungame (I’m talking about default gamemodes, obviously if there are custom servers there will be new gamemodes coming up too), and also judging by the immense hype behind this game, there’s a good chance of a gamemode being developed that would appeal to you.

But, to me, that in no way justifies the horrendous price. I can’t even begin to imagine how much money they’re making off of this, and quite frankly miss when games used to be in the $15-$30 range.

Eh, I’ll probably just catch next week’s episode.

I cannot belive this was released for PC in the state its in. There are some serious programming errors here. Its slow, jittery and unstable. This is without doubt one of the worst bugs i’ve encountered in a game. Multiplayer is just unplayable and single player isn’t much better.

It makes me wonder if they just skipped beta testing for the PC all together.

I already have the game,I preorded,but haven’t played yet,I 'm not really excited about this game,I Played all the Cods,so for me it’s just another cod game…well let’s see…

I pre-ordered black ops and as others have said the campaign is incredibly similar to MW2 and besides badass cinematics, is really boring. I haven’t been able to get a huge chance to play the mp because all they servers are incredibly laggy, but something about tdm isn’t that exciting. Gun Game, the only wager match I’ve rally tried so far, is incredibly addicting when it isn’t lagging. Whenever I’m having medium to low lag I end up in the money. I cannot possibly describe how incredibly frustrating the laggy servers are; I have played the mp for three hours and haven’t come across a single lag-less server. And of those servers only about 25% have been very playable. It seems like it just really can’t be called a CoD without at least one or two massive flaws.

Also, so far I dislike the new currency system; it is insanely easy to buy any weapon attachment or killstreak you want. ONE tdm match gets you about 5-8 attachments. And the currency rewards for wager matches aren’t anywhere near enough.

The mission where you pilot the boat is probably the most fun. Right as you’re blowing shit up the Stones start playing. Classic.

I’ll buy it when I’m done enjoying Halo: Reach, which will be never.

Oh look another person who doesn’t like COD.

There are soooo many scripts, that it looks like a interactive moovie… I just finished it
and just noticed the same alarm sound in Call of Duty: Black Ops as in Half Life 2: Episode 2.

At the last map when a strider comes too near to the base an alarm begins to ring.
In COD. at the mission called “WMD” there is totaly the same sound.

I’m just wondering if they stoled that sound from Ep2. ?! xD

I wouldn’t have bought it, considering I prefer SP and having played MW2 on a friend’s 360, it didn’t seem worth it for the recycling of set-pieces that some reviews mentioned. I don’t really like the MP either, partly due to the twitchy nature of COD, and my FPS skills not being good enough for MP!
However, I will play through the SP, because I gave my brother my Steam details when he bought L4D2 last year, and when I loaded Steam today, there was Black-Ops waiting to download!!

I got it on PC yesterday and just played some more of the SP. It’s very cinematic and a major overhaul of what Infinity Ward usually does; definitely more enjoyable than the usual ‘CoD-slog’. It’s weird to see a CoD game with a story so complex! :retard:

I’ve barely touched the multiplayer yet but it looks just as enjoyable as any other CoD game, with added weapons, kill-streaks and customizations.

I also havn’t noticed any of the slow-downs or glitches that people keep moaning about. It runs brilliantly maxed out with 8xAA… :expressionless:

I’ve heard some very mixed opinions about Black Ops. Everyone I know either seems to think that it’s amazing, or terrible, or both.

Personally I won’t be getting it too soon, maybe if there is a steam sale at some point. Does the game have leaning?

Only Cod games you should buy: Cod1,2 and Modern Warfare. I am not going to BUY black ops. Maybe i will play it with my friends on ps3 when they buy it.

I’d buy it if it was like $30, from what i hear its campaign is still really short and most games I buy for just MP are only $20.

Edit: also this is coming from someone who found the last 3 cod games not even worth pirating.

you forgot the first one.
