Black Mesa - Will it be scary?

Quick-save with every corner turn.

I actually do that sometimes, but I always forget that there exists a Quick-save so I just save normally through the menu.

"In a March 2010 interview, Gabe Newell hinted that they intend to return the Half-Life franchise to its psychological horror roots "

I think this says everything, it is supposed to be scary it only depends on how the devs will remake it.

Prepare to meet Mr. Friendly D: :fffuuu:

That would be amazing.

Oh man. The first few times i went thorugh that area, I was really nervous.
Running for your life, trying to get to next crawl space to hide out, while hearing the growling and massive foot steps getting closer just really gave me goose bumps. I recall actually letting out a “Yelp!” when the guardian punted me one time. Luckily it kicked me straight into the crawl space

What I find teh scariez: (scariez being interchangeable with hart attaxorz and teh creepz!!1!lol)

The first headcrab encounter. I kept running back thinking I had missed my first weapon. Oh what a gaming retard I was back then.
Any part in HL1 with zombies when I’m playing in the dark. (Oh hey strobe lighting, what is that in front of the screeOH GOD MAKE IT LEAVE MY MIIIIIND)
Air duct headcrabs. Also the part in the airduct with the flooded electric room? I always forget the fan there, it always makes me jump out of my seat.
Running from Gargantuas (Your own footsteps (step…step…step…step) vs the Garg’s footsteps (THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP))
On A Rail + Screaming Zombies (I like this part, it’s calmHRRUHYEEEEHRAHUUUUUU OH MY GAAAAAAWD)
The first time I fought the Nihilanth. (OH GOD WHAT DO I DO, DO I JUST SHOOT IT??? HALP) I remember emptying almost all my ammo before realizing you had to shoot the crystals.
The Ichys. Especially because the first time I played HL1 I was a retard and didn’t know you were supposed to use the crossbow, so I always jumped in and started smacking it with my crowbar, wondering why I kept dying. Oh the times.
Teleporting enemies > all enemies in HL2 except the fast zombies of course

In general, the entire HL1 game felt desolate, in a good atmospheric way. Tram Ride, anyone?

Fast zombies in Ravenholm. (Phew, that was close, only ten health left and three bullets… glad I have some off-time now. HIYYUHHIYEE CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK)
The tunnel in the first part of Sand Traps in HL2. (OH GOD FAST ZOMBIES OH FUCK I CAN’T GET OUT OF THE CAR AAAdead)
Not really scary as in piss-your-pants, but more like heart attack scary: the part where you have to jump over the sand on tiny baby pieces of metal. (miss RUMBLERUMBLERUMBLEdead)
Sudden Poison Zombies from nowhere. (Tumdedumdedum SCREECH 1 health OH GOD WHAT WHEN WHERE)
Radio + Lack of sleep + Dark room. Those who know what I’m talking about know what I’m talking about.
Zombie corpses that are actually alive. (Room clear! Let’s look for suppliOH GOD WHERE DID YOU COME FROM)
Poison headcrabs also cause shooting spasms as described below regardless of direction.

Also, in any game, when I think it’s calm and then suddenly there’s an enemy behind me. I always literally jump from my seat and tend to empty my entire magazine without hitting them.

Oh god I get that all the time if someone enters when I’m gaming.

Amen.

HURR I MUST SHOW OFF THE SIZE OF MY E-PEEN ONLINE

And one thing about Half-Life 1: the only way to make it into a good movie would be to make it a science-fiction horror film*. What does that tell you about the game?

Also, after reading several comments, I will go play “Dangerous World”

 • Oh dat opinions.

TL;DR VERSION

I’m a wuss

I shit myself every time with these parts. Heart racing, adrenaline, the need to GTFO OF THERE!

Wait those weren’t zombies those were alien controllers.

Still don’t understand why they put that soundfile there though. :frowning:

It was a L4D zombie hoard. I thought the forums already went over this.

In all seriousness, it was just people screaming. Probably from being ripped apart by zombies far off in the facility, but traveling far through the vent systems and such. It was meant to freak you out.

Sounded way out of place though.

This reminds me of every time a film adaptation of a novel comes out. The true fans always say “Bllaaaaaaaaaah they changed this and that and it’s not accurate!”

Personally, I couldn’t care less as to how accurate an adaptation or a remake is to its source material. It should be considered completely independent of it.

That being said, even though the mods here are aiming to recreate Half-Life, if they decided to turn the game into some kind of Resident Evil survival-horror, it would be weird to get used to, but I’d be all open to try it.

To me, it doesn’t matter whether or not Black Mesa is scary or not. Besides, Half-Life never managed to be scary anyways. If anyone counts Ravenholm as being scary, I suggest they play System Shock 2. Ravenholm, on a horror level, isn’t shit.

Yes, System Shock 2 is terrifying, but Ravenholm is scary. Not terrifying, but scary.

Neither of them are scary. They have dark atmospheres, monster-like enemies, and horror-like themes, but anyone over 12 can tell you that they’re not scary.

I cant wait to install a fuck off sub and speakers for a garg sound test  THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP

from my outside my bedroom itll sound and feel like a garg is walking around my house, if it could even fit. vibrations will create shock terror! :retard:

I was 26 or 27 when I played System Shock 2. I shit bricks from the fear I felt before I even saw a single monster in that game. It was a terrifying experience to say the least.

that design is only frightening to 3 year olds, although i’ll have to look at the nihilanth to give my final judgment.

The only thing Thats only Scary Ill be ICHTHYOSAUR https://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/half-life/en/images/2/27/Ichthyosaur.jpg

(No offence)

how could anyone possibly take offence from that?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
