Black Mesa - Will it be scary?

I mean, Half-life 1 wasnt scary, I mean it wasnt even supposed to be scary. Half-life 2 isnt scary or anything either. Just plain fun.
Even though we already know what to expect pretty much around BM, will you devs try to scare us?
I mean,

You guys have the potential to make this frightening. Do you plan to? Do you fans want a scary Half-Life, one that makes you jump form your seat, be afraid to turn that corner?
Sounds fun to me.

No, they plan to recreate Half-Life.

I know one thing… IT’LL BE SCARY GOOD! wooooooooooooo :3

Actually they changed their plans. This mod will now be known as Silent Hill: Source.

I would imagine it might be scarier in the idea it will have better lighting and more vivid detail, but I don’t think it’s going to actually be made scarier and I would rather it wasn’t. Half-Life isn’t suppose to actually be scary, so I don’t think the remake should be either.

I’d be happy to see TOTAL darkness in the heart of black mesa.

Doom 3: Source.

Lol I know. I had moments where a headcrab in a tunnel jumoing out at you totally startled me. These were some of my most memorable moments. I could see BM featuring just such moments.

Thats for sure!

Im not saying like Doom 3 style, but they could definetely try to get you. Another point. Those aliens are going to look a lot more intimidating when you can see the sweat coming out of their pores.

And you started a new topic to ask a question, why?

the way He’s Posting, I’m Beginning to think he’s either been Hacked or a younger sibling has gained control of his computer.

I was wondering that myself, he’s been around long enough to know that one should ask questions in the appropriate thread.

Me? Nope.
Im not asking a question per se. Im proposing a thread to talk about if people think playing Black Mesa would be more frightening than Half-Life 1 is.
And I left room for dev input.

Still not convinced? From the FAQ

And I guess calling it scary would make me seem younger. But what word would you use? idk. Disconcerting? Intimidating? Ehh, this worked fine.

Well, ya, I’m not saying it be Doom 3. I already said that the quality and style of the game will probably make it a little bit scarier. What I’m saying is I don’t want the devs intentionally trying to make it scary.

Right. They arent changing the mood.

I know one thing… It will be AWESOME!

I don’t think it’ll be frightening, per se, but rather have a few ‘oh shit’ moments (headcrabs jumping out).

A thread discussing the level of horror in HL (while it wasn’t a strictly horror game, only someone who really didn’t pay attention would deny it had horror elements) and how much BM should focus on horror is perfectly valid.

And thus spoke raw_bean.

I was pretty old (and more importantly, pretty jaded) the first time I played HL1, but it still genuinely made me jump several times. I was still more freaked out the first time I played through Ravenholm than I ever was in the original, but there’s plenty of room for small-scale scares. Like Disseminate said, “startling” moments seem more appropriate than full-on Silent Hill-style horror.

And some “wtf” moment, turn corner, seeing soldier, zombie or alien slave.:fffuuu:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
