I had too much euphoria to feel fear from Half Life.
The first time I played HL the assassins scared me shitless. It took me forever to get through that part because I was too afraid to fight them head on. The second time I played HL was on hard mode, so they were able to cloak.
Bricks. Shat.
Also, the underground carpark. Terrified. Flashlight kept dying, I was sprinting around and worried about Alyx, almost no ammo. The howling the zombies filled my ears like jello made of scary.
I wasn’t able to beat it the first day of trying. Went to a friend’s house the next day, he had just set up his 42" HD tv and hooked his computer/stereo to it. Played through Ep1 on full setting (no way my box can do that), max volume. He was freaked out just as hard as I was the first time and he wasn’t even playing it.
HL1 was a horror game for me. I can’t tell you how many times I’d stop walking, throw myself against a corner and wait–terrified of whatever it was I knew was around the corner.
I don’t want them to MAKE BM scary, I want BM to create its own mood. That’s one of my favorite things about the HL games; it doesn’t seem like they’re trying to fit into a genre. They’re horror when they are, and sci-fi the rest of the time.
EDIT: I’ve never been able to get more than fifteen minutes into Afraid of Monsters. I’m a puss.
You should go play Silent Hill or Penumbra. Those games are great for sissies…

Yeah, he just crouch-walks about the surreal landscape of raped dreams that is that game in abject terror until he abandons the game to chain-smoke, eyes haunted and vacant…
I think it’ll be scary. You guys have got the mood right on from what I’ve seen. I look forward to swearing furiously and spraying bullets as lurching undead abortions try to make sexytime to my goatee.
I can straight out tell you that I HATE horror and scary games.I could barely play HL2 from the beginning to Ravenholm.
Heres what happened…
The farthest I ever got into that game is Ravenholm…I was so scared…I had no ammo…2 HP …poisonous headcrabs everywhere and running into the wrong doors into 20 zombies…and I just quit after that.
To tell you the truth the reason I quit is because my bro’s computer died…so I couldn’t finish the game O_O…
But to say that I can’t handle horror…the most successful game I ever made through with a horror genre is Quake 4.
I like that game but still scared the crap out of me.
That part where your on the way where they chop your legs off and turn you into a monster is SUPER messed up…not scary but messed up…I never did finish it (not because I was scared) but because I couldn’t figure out how to continue into the game.So it kinda got screwed up…
Also I have never played HL1 passed after a few chapters within the game because I’m too scared…
You can say I’m a pussy and I realize that but I prefer Modern FPS like CS:Source,MW2,and many more.
Now L4D and all of those horror genre’s that require co-op are CRAZY fun not scary at all.I use to play Brainbread back in the day.It scared me at times because it got dark sometimes…
Oh and COD World at War zombie co-op pretty dang fun .
I’ve told you before–crouch-walking makes things less scary! It’s a scientifically proven truth.
In the game AVP, when you got hit by a facehugger, it would jump at your face, make a really loud noise and scare you shitless. Headcrabs are basically the same thing only slower, but when you get attacked by a headcrab I suppose it has the potential to have the same affect on the player.
Also this is slightly unrelated because I’m talking about headcrabs now, but I do think it would be beter if headcrabs had something like a 1 in 4 chance of pouncing on you and zombifying you, which would count as a death and at the same time be pretty scary. Yes I know it’s too late to add something like that, but perhaps a later update or mod could be made to give them this ability. Headcrabs were always a bit to easy, I think.
Headcrabs are supposed to be cannon fodder…
That’s like saying “Hey, the pistol is too weak. Why not give it a 1 in 4 chance of firing a HEAT Rocket?”
Hmm I suppose… but it would add realism. Surely the crabs would want to use you as a host instead of killing you?
That’s what the suit is for.
BUT NO HELMET :fffuuu:
Games never really scare me unless they catch me off guard. The culprits here are games like AVP, when I’m playing a bad ass predator who is mowing down countless marines and aliens, only to get face humped. That never failed to make me jump.
Games that try to be scary never do it for me.
oh u
Great minds think alike ;D
I really hope there will not be much scary stuffs, pls dont make headcrabs jump from nowhere etc lol
Are you afraid of the dark, kid?
Black Mesa isn’t going to be scary.
One scene always gets me… the goddamned Icky.
I have a feeling I’ll be biting my nails on Apprehension again, hell, I couldn’t even pass ST’s dam for a solid week, the bastard fish swiming in the mucky brown carpet grinning at me.
To that headcrab thingy- Have you played Codename Gordon? I love how they jump on your head and you have to swoosh with crowbar to get them down :retard:
Codename Gordon was good for 5 seconds until boring enemies and whiney Barney brought it all crashing down around me.
