Black Mesa - Will it be scary?

That sounds exactly like dead space, be awesome if it was that scary

fix’d

Wait a minute, Doom 3 & Dead Space were supposed to be scary? Why wasn’t I told this? I’d better go and beat them again, because I seemed to have missed something.

Agree with Dias. Though I’ve never played Dead Space I’ve seen a ton of gameplay videos. Doom 3 however was about as scary as a mouldy lemon.

…Probably equally entertaining as well for that matter.

You know it’s bad when a game makes you laugh at it’sfailed attempts to be scary.

Most people that I have heard from didn’t actually laugh at that part. They were quite freaked out. I have to admit to feeling a little bit uneasy at that point, though I wasn’t ā€œscaredā€ per se.

when i first played that through that scene with headphones, I didn’t find it particularly hee-larious. I registered it as cliched, sure, but mostly it just came out of nowhere and made me :what:-face a bit.

I’m just saying, that part I specifically remember laughing out loud at how little sense it made.

Was there a point to that? Is it plot related(I didn’t bother with the PDAs)? Does DoomGuy have baby-phobia or something?

It just came out of nowhere, and ended up being just another strange tease with no real consequences. Just like with Fear, whenever I saw someone run around a corner I figured it would be just another scripted sequence plot thing like being knocked out at the beginning of the game, or to disappear into a cloud of black shredded toilet paper.

It’s like dying with the vita chambers in Bioshock. When I realize there’s no consequence for not responding to those ā€œscaryā€ scenes, that little hud flicker just became an indicator for me to not give a shit.

Wait a tic… ADSL… VoIP box… and a standalone answering machine?

WTF?!?!

OT:

Personally, I don’t ā€œscareā€ easily (think horror flick scare… my wife when pissed off doesn’t count). What thrills me most in a game is suspense, which for me is more about the pace and plot of a given scenario. HL1 got me going in a few spots (until I played thru enough to memorize it)… I’d bet BM will be immersive enough to do better. :fffuuu:

On the subject of HL and it’s games being scary, it never really SCARED me. Just made me jump. Although I must say in Ep2 running from the Guardian did make me feel incredibly uneasy and freaked, probably because I just hate being chased. And plus I never looked back so when I DID get hit I would go ā€œHOLY FUCK NOā€

I remember the first time I played half-life. I was at an internet cafe when I decided to give it a try.

I spent like 20 minutes walking around not understanding what the game was about… and suddenly BOOM RESONANCE CASCADE!

I got scared shitless. I was like ā€œOh my God Oh my God did I do that?!ā€

I also remember being very scared in Xen. I was crouching in some corner with health at 2, and I could hear all those alien sounds and the controllers making those shrieks… I really felt I was alone, lost in an alien dimension.

No game has ever been able to make me feel as half-life did.

You were. You were in an internet cafe.

I’m not sure how to react to that

HL wasn’t really scary for me. I’d jump every once in a while when a Headcrab jumps out of nowhere at me. God, I hate Headcrabs :meh: .

Lol when I was a kid I was terrified of headcrabs.

Black mesa will have the most engaging gameplay if hes scarry you dont play it let us to entertain us  :retard:

When I was 25 I was terrified of poison headcrabs.

shudder

I flipped out and had a shooting spasm when I saw a headcrab zombie for the first time. :’(

I got scared when I was 3 and a was goofing with my fathers game a half life for the first time and a headcrab jumped at me an I was like :fffuuu:and:’(
