i’m thinking about the nuking of black mesa and i can’t stop thinking about it being impossible to destroy black mesa with a nuke. when you se the pictures of hiroshima after the nuke, you se that some parts of buildings still stands. so that leads me to think that the nuke only destroyed little over a quarter of the facility and the remaining scientists, xen creatures (that had turned good because nihiliath was dea) and soldiers fought race x and begun to live in the ruins in harmony. because they can’t go up because of the radiation
I smell a troll!
Actually, the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall was only 160 metres away from ground zero, but was not destroyed
Think I read it was directly below the air burst. Could be wrong, but it’s pretty amazing that it survived
The people still died, but the building survived.
The nuke was, however, detonated from the inside. This may have lead to earthquakes, collapsing the entire facility.
But seriously, do you think the G-Man would allow such a mistake?
i don’t realy think a nuke would do so much as a dent to the almost 100 meter thick armed concrete walls of black mesa when barts of buildings with a quarter meter armed concrete survive.

This.
Get off the bandwagon. Izz not funneh.
It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard about Hiroshima, or whatever a nuke may possibly destroy in the real world. The HL story says Black Mesa was nuked, then Black Mesa was nuked.
I don’t ever remember thinking, “Goliath is still alive because one rock hitting him in the head wouldn’t do much damage.” It’s part of the story. And, yes, his head was cut off afterwards. That is beside the point.
Black Mesa’s dead guys, face it.
Especially the source version, I heard physics are like 20x more intense in source so it’s pretty much desintegrated and evaporated.
dont you die on me black mesa ;D
im sorry blue… we tried are best to save him/her…
Would you be prepared to stand on the other side of a 100 meter thick wall of concrete with a nuke going off the other side? Put your money where your mouth is.
It is not clear where in the facility (canonically speaking) the nuke was detonated. Since opposing force is not canon, so we can only presume.
A nucelar bomb inside, but not far below surface would have the largest impact, all entrances to the facility would potentially be collapsed as well as large portions of underground sectors, there would be surviving structure deep within the ground of course. Even without contact with the blast, any people or xen creatures inside the facility would most likely be killed by the shockwave caused by the blast. There’s no doubt that the facility would be rendered inoperable. Even if the blast didn’t destory parts of the structure, the intensity of the blast would force it down corridors and shafts for miles, scorching everything that can be scorched, and many sections would collapse severing access to deeper parts.
Afterwards the facility would be flooded with radioactive fallout and the ground around the facility would be contaminated for decades. When possible any surviving access points to the facility would most likely be filled with concrete to contain the radiation and prevent access.
Not 100% destruction, but the facility and all its infrastructure would be absolutely decimated, which is just as good as complete destruction.
The bomb dropped on Japan was detonated in the air above the ground. Which still level the entire city, and the only buildings left standing were kilomteres away from the impact zone.
In affect, comapred to the Warhead in BM, which undoubtly would be far more powerful, but it was also UNDERGROUND, which would cause way more strucural damage.
Literally, BM should be a giant crater in the time of HL2.
:fffuuu:
…Holy crap!
have you forgotten the huge steel doors in the complex? they could have prevented a lot of damage to the facility. and who knows how deep it is. a good storyline for a part of epp 3 would be that gordon needs to go to black mesa to try to find some experimental thing from the deepest sector in the facility
I seriously hope you are joking here. The nuke was just a mean for Valve to set the story somewhere else. They wanted to break new grounds and avoid setting it in Black Mesa. They clearly aren’t interested in going back.
Sort of creativity nuke.
