Black Mesa in a nutshell

The Barrel = Gordon’s best friend.

OMG that guy. His gameplay is frustrating and yet funny to laugh at the same time.

While he is playing like an idiot, and skipped a major portion of the tutorial that told him how to jump-crouch, and is incredibly annoying, that video does point out a big flaw in the game that you HAVE to jump-crouch for almost every jump in the game. I don’t consider that good design. They should consider revising that.

The best part is when he starts maniacally laughing out of desperation, who wouldn’t? Black Mesa = #1 recipe for insanity
Jokes aside, seeing people struggle can serve as a good feedback for you devs I think. The average gamer may have some trouble with this game.
But in my opinion he should be forgiven since he hadn’t played the original Half-Life.

Some areas indeed require more tuning, looking forward to more balancing in the next release

It’s something that was looked into and ‘fixed’. :freeman:

I look forward to the “fix” then (even though I got through the game as originally released without too much trouble [not jumping at least {too many parenthesis!!!}]).

Nevermind, error post.

Sounds ominous. I hope you’ve taken the approach of (optionally) reinstating HL2’s jump/movement mechanics. That’'s what I’d personally like, at least.

They’ve added a Navi like character that follows you around. “Hay, lissen! You need to crouch jump here.”

I hope you used HL2’s jumping mechanics.

The game has the same jump height as current BMS has, however if you jump and press W when trying to jump on something higher than your jump height, Gordon automatically clips to the top of it.

I laughed hysterically for the first 15 minutes of this video, especially when it speeds up and you hear him going, “What the hell? This is so annoying!” and the like. My girlfriend probably thought I was having a seizure, and I didn’t want to explain because she wouldn’t understand anyway. Thanks for this–watching this during my paper-writing break will hopefully make the rest a lot less painful.

Very Gligar13vids-esque.
What? I’m the only person who gets it?

[COLOR=‘Black’]Oh yeah, I am…

l think he fucked up his mouse and switched to a controller later on, which removed any remaining possibility of crouch jumping

None of you even consider the possibility that he’s just playing a character and does everything wrong on purpose?

Hint: the smack-talk tweets that are scattered across the video.

Read what I said again. I left that possibility open.

And there is also the possibility that he legitimately played it poorly on a live stream, and then integrated the comments into the YouTube video pointing out how dumb he really is later for the fun of self deprecation.

I can’t wait to watch him play Xen chapter. That will be interesting to watch him what his going to do.

Gina Cross’s hologram will appear out of nowhere like a ghost and tell you exactly what to do in case you don’t manage to progress in the game by reaching the next map transition (which shouldn’t be that hard by the way, haha) for like consecutive 5 minutes or so, you heard it here first. Truly next-gen feature.

For the video, it matters not if it isn’t for real, the point of it is to show that indeed real struggles a player may have with the game. After all, picking up a ladder in order to reach a vent is only logical, but can’t be done… seriously, this mod sucks devs, a ladder can’t be climbed up? Uninstalling asap :stuck_out_tongue:

That video wasn’t uploaded by the guy playing the game, that’s a “look at how dumb this guy is” video upluoaded by someone else highlighting the player guy’s lameness.

Well, that’s confusing.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
