True. But I usually find myself behind cover when I switch weapons, as you are expected in most modern shooters. Then again, this is supposed to mirror the old style shooters of the late 90’s, and the complex animations doesn’t allow for the quick weapon switching that these old school shooters are supposed to require. I think that’s the problem with the pack: It is trying to animate for a modern shooter, when we are clearly dealing with a retro shooter with modern graphics.
exactly.
Seriously if those draw anims could be interrupted by fire there would be no problem.
I mean it literally takes 2 seconds to draw the grenade and get to the point where I can pull the pin. That’s a bit ridiculous
I’m wondering whose complaint you’re talking about.
switch weapons lose health get shot shoot back it’s a game ya bronies. mold your strategy around it all
I sure you had no thoughts of complaints I said when you wrote that, otherwise I am deeply offended!
EDIT: Toast.
Nigga this is half life. You need a full life to mold strategy.
That is the only reason i still play with old Black Mesa weapons. It’s REALLY annoying because i have set 10 grenades max. so it takes like half minute to shoot them all >
I guess this isn’t as big of a deal for me. Although annoying, the quality of the animations, the HEV hands, and the aesthetics of the weapons make up for that.
Do what other players do and quickly switch weapons by hitting Q twice.
Yes i knew that trick, but it’s still slower because even it’s pickup animation lasts longer than firing a grenade, and pressing Q twice isn’t very… nice to just reload a weapon. Oh well i can play without these new animations.
To be quite honest I never noticed any delay in switching weapons. The only thing that got me killed was the reload animation for the grenade launcher. A version without that would be pretty sweet. But if these actually do change animation times more than I thought they did, I’m going to be pretty disappointed I can’t use these whenever Deathmatch comes out.
I don’t really see how Black Mesa mirrors old school shooters either. It’s a remake of Half-Life and I always thought Half-Life had more in common with modern shooters than people give it credit for. What exactly is so different other than the lack of iron sights and having secondary fire? Because that’s about all I can tell. Well, I guess there are jumping puzzles in Xen but most people hate those anyways…
Also, is it just me or has installing these weapons broke the TOW launcher? Black Mesa crashes every time I shoot it. I can’t figure out if it’s these or Surface Tension Uncut doing the crime.
I found it to work with the TOW launcher earlier in ST. I am not sure what it is your problem. Also, even though it is fairly “modern shooter-ey”, it obviously still has major elements that are considered to be traits of a old school shooter. For instances, the relatively fast running in the game is supposed to allow for less cover based shooting and more strafe based shooting, which means the need for quick animations for reloading on the go, especially since cover based shooting was not an element from old school shooters. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s what I’ve observed so far.
The animation should be either short (please no it’s cool, but… ) or shooting should be able to skip most of it. I hope a fix will soon deal with this issue.
I play BM in a bit of a tactical manner and love the slower animations because I love hiding behind crates, moving from cover to cover and bailing when I need to reload.
So using this with Surface Tension uncut breaks the reload sounds.

Did you try them on the assassins?
The animations make them way harder to fight.
Unfortunately the HECU charge you most of the time, which 80% of the time is when you decide to switch weapons.
- level design feels old-school in many places
- fighting with MP5 is a spray-and-pray in action-packed situations
