Black Mesa 2009 Update

It’s one thing to flame someone for their opinion. It’s another thing however, when that opinion turns into “you owe me this or I’ll lose faith in you” type of immaturity. Let me ask YOU a harsh question here:

What has any nondeveloper done for the mod, to date, that we can verify? In total, some posts to a forum, and complaint after complaint that it’s not done when THEY think it should be done else they’ll “lose faith” in the mod.

If a missed deadline is enough to make someone “lose faith” in a FREE modification, then there wasn’t much faith there to begin with.

And, let’s put it this way: Faith doesn’t pay the bills. Faith doesn’t render levels. Faith doesn’t model creatures. Faith doesn’t provide voice acting. Hard work and determination does that.

They don’t owe us. We owe them. We owe them our faith.

Alternatively, you can just get a life and come back to see if it’s ready later.

Each media release is treated with care. Care takes time and discussion on what should be presented and what should be held back or if it is good enough. Honestly folks, media releases DO take serious time away from the mod.

Everyone is disappointed, but percentage/time wise this mod has put out more trailers and media than any other mod. I have 112 MB from the screenshots alone. What other mod has ever put out that much? I know it has been 6 long years, but honestly, there comes a point where the amount shown becomes too much dontcha think?

And danielsangeo you should bold that last statement, not make it smaller. The dev team has already seen proof of this behavior already, and yes it is saddening.

The basic assumption behind every newspost, every announcement, every trailer is that the developers care about the interest and faith of the fanbase. I’m not sure how that statement is reversible.

For what?

We will owe them for the mod, exactly when they release the mod. All faith given before that, is given on promises. That’s I think why some people are bummed about the missed deadline.

PS: His addendum was already bolded. I’m not sure why the forum software made it smaller.

PPS: I’m not a dupe! >_<

PPPS: Who has less of a life: the person griping about the missed date of a major game remake, or the person griping about the former?

Faith is a rather vague (and to many a complex to others a meaningless) notion.

Let’s talk support. You either do support the developers (you say something positive about the progress updates, you give constructive feedback, participate in community projects) or not.

Also. No news? Check their youtube channel.
Finally. Any update in the form of trailers or new media needs a considerable amount of time. The mod development also needs time. And all this time is taken from the devs free time for 4 or more years now. This is quite the sacrifice if you ask me, and I don’t think you care to respect it.

have you hugged a BM developer today?

Okay, two points. First of all: I’m a bit bummed about this, but I don’t mind it greatly. I was trying to vocalize the critics’ point of view.
Second: do you think the developers are more interested in honest feedback, or in mindless adoration? If somebody thinks that this announcement means a loss of trust for them, they should be able to say so without being flamed for showing anything less than unwavering optimism.

I didn’t know they even had one - which is, in a way, part of the problem.

My post was only partially about the developers, but also about the reaction of the local forum denizens. That being said, I do have respect for the great work the developers are doing, which I believe I also mentioned in my original post, but I can also understand people who are less than impressed with what we have seen to date, and chose to not respect what remains, to this date, unreleased work.

:expressionless:

Oops. I honestly didn’t see the scrollbar. I usually just click on News.

maybe you should give this information directly on your homepage…

and maybe you can go on with duke nukem forever when you are done here.

Well, I’m back to the forums after a while. And I’m actually glad to hear the delay.

I don’t know why. I mean, I really want to play it, but I’m still glad.

I guess it boils down to two things: 1. Seeing the reaction of the smart, and the dumb. 2. Seeing a better mod released.

I completely support the delay.

Alles Ratten -
Why don’t you get out of here.
That sounds like a better idea.

Everyone here is a fan of Half-Life, not the BM team (at least I’m not). I just couldn’t agree more with your post. Let’s just hope they don’t wreck it.

Sorry Adam, english is not my native language. Could you tell me what part of my text you didn’t understand? I would be more than happy to correct the grammar mistakes.

Nah, It’s OK now.
I read it too fast. That’s all.

I had removed it but I put it up again.

:awesome:

Not… everyone.

Also, hug

I am disturbed by your sudden optimism.

It’s not sudden, my friend. And it’s ‘optimism’ by a longshot.

Faith is something you deposit on your beliefs, loved ones, gods (if you have any). Quite frankly, I don’t think it’s fair to call the sort of expectations for this mod “faith”. It’s more like hysteria. The dev’s are normal people (or not) working on a remake for hl, they are not superior beings with super powers that should be eighter worshiped or rejected for not keeping their “godly” promisses. There’s no faith to be betrayed;

I suppose the main problem with being altruistic (let’s face it, making something like BM for free IS a bit generous) is that soon people will create divine expecations for you. The dev’s are trying to give us what could be the best tribute for the hl series ever and there are guys complaining because they want it immediatly. Suddenly, raminator is Santa and all the angry members are children cursing his mythic figure for not giving them what they wanted on christmas.

Medevilae - Your avatar is blinding me.

Haha! I have to say, I’ve never thought of Raminator as Santa.
