Bioshock Infinite

So I just saw this kickass trailer and it reminded me how much I’m looking forward to this game.

The original Bioshock is currently sitting on top of my “favorite games of all time” list, so I’m hoping this game will plow it’s way to the top of aforementioned list.

Also, just skimmed through the comments on the video and — Wow! People claiming “Oh this is just like Dishonored” and then Bioshock purists saying “Dishonored stole from the original! Dishonored sucks!” I’ve honestly never thought one’s own personal preference would prevent them from experiencing the grand total of available “fun”, for lack of a better term.

It’s sad, isn’t it?

Looking forward to this game.

Well, keep in mind that that video is uploaded by machinima. IGN and Machinima does have a much larger portion of “young” people than other channels. That may explain a lot.

Watched only 10 seconds, spoiled the beginning of the game,so that’s about it of Bioshock Infinite for me until it comes out.

You didn’t know this? There’s actually a law which states that you may only like ONE game of any particular genre. If you like BF3 then you must hate COD. If you like Dishonoured then you must hate Bioshock.
If you like Guildwars 2 then you must hate any other MMORPG.
If you like Torchlight 2 then you must hate Diablo 3.

It’s simply not allowed for someone to like several games of the same genre.

Hmmm…I am starting to think that perhaps you have more than one game of a particular genre…I’m calling the cops!

This law exists for a reason. It’s to prevent people from becoming normal civilised people (rather than being total dickheads)

I like that Dishonored did well enough that it has its own fanboys though.

I hope Bioshock Infinite turns out well. It’s definitely got the triple A production values, I just hope they don’t turn it into a straight up modern FPS.

I think bioshock infinite looks great, and I’m looking forward to it. The new art style doesn’t appeal to me quite as much as the previous dieselpunk art deco, but it looks amazing nonetheless. It’s also a light brighter and more airy, of course, which is nice change of pace from the darker atmosphere of Bioshock.

I could never get into bioshock. The gameplay for me just felt really stale. I suppose I went into it thinking it’d be more of a Deus Ex type game but what I got was a pretty linear crawl with some minor RPG elements. Whether or not this was a marketing ploy or my ignorance I’m not sure, probably both.

Well, yeah, the fact that it’s linear is actually part of the plot, not to mention that it wasn’t even that linear to begin with. There were a ton of side areas.

Linear is definitely the wrong word for Bioshock.

My main problem with it – that Infinite doesn’t look set to fix – is that the upgrade system generally just came down to “which way do you want to kill dudes in the face.” There was no real practical difference to your builds aside from shoot with bees vs. shoot with fire, etc.

The big catch for me with Bioshock was that the main focus, while not apparent at face value, was the engrossing storyline. I know people will reject that and claim it was a subpar story, but I think it was one of the best.

Who said that it was subpar? Bioshock had a great storyline. The world was just so deep and immersing.

Edit: Is that word, ‘immersing’, the right word to use? I’m not sure, but I spent too long looking at it and now it looks like gibberish.

Immersive.

I found it to be pretty linear. Sure there were side areas, but it still boiled down to simply a divergent corridor crawl imo. I’d agree as well, the minor RPG elements really didn’t come down to much, and for me didn’t really entice a second play through. Infact, after I had killed Ryan I couldn’t care less about the other dude.

It was a shame because I found the world itself to be highly immersive, but again I didn’t find the story to be all that great. It had good writing in regards to the characters, and the voice actors were fantastic but the storyline itself bored me after a while, thus making the twist fall flat.

Thus Infinite doesn’t really grab me. The ideas of the game world don’t wow me like the original, and I can’t even imagine the story or the combat to surpass the original. Could be wrong, but it certainly isn’t a game I’ll be rushing out to get.

Well, when I said the subpar thing, I meant that there are people out there who are so hellbent on not conforming that they will subconsciously deny the relevance of anything anyone else likes.

*Spoilers for 5 year old game.

The thing that turned me off of Bioshock’s story is that it’s ripped almost directly from System Shock 2 – both thematically and structurally. Replace Atlas/Fontaine with Polito/Shodan and the collectivism of the many with Andrew Ryan’s failed take on Objectivism and they’re borderline identical.

At the very least I know that Infinite won’t have the same problem, so I’m pretty stoked about that aspect of it.

Wasn’t that the point though?

BioShock 1 was overrated as fuck because there were like four enemies and the fork in the ending was so obviously shoehorned in at the last second for a bullet point on the box. There was plenty of great atmosphere, but the last maps in the game just ruin it.

That FUCKING escort mission…

Overrated is a stupid ass word used by stupid ass people.
