Yeah, I am. Bioshock was a great game with a good storyline (which is brought to you trough recordings with superb voice acting).
Once you start playing it you won’t stop until you’ve finished the game.
No.
+win for pre-ordering! I’ve preordered my copy from amazon, £24 normal edition (I don’t see the point in a special edition filled with loads of stuff I’d never use tbh). Looks to be a good game though
Agreed. For all Bioshock was awesome, the sequel just seems…tacked on.
I’ve pre-ordered from DVD.CO.UK, both Amazon.co.uk and dvd.co.uk sell the game for £24.99 but from dvd.co.uk it’s either free s&h if you’re in the UK or only £1 for the rest of Europe.
I actually think the first was utter shit, and the second will be worse.
And yes, I played the whole thing, not just five minutes.
What the hell? You thought it was utter shit?
Explain yourself.
I’m renting it. I’m a little iffy on the whole game, but if multiplayer is awesome, I’ll get it.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I LOVED Bioshock 1. It may be a “dumbed down” System Shock 2, but that’s not the point. The point is that the game looks great, plays well, has an amazing atmosphere, and has a great story for added flavor.
Looking forward to it, but will wait until it’s £4 or something on Steam next year. :’(
the orignal bio-shock was good fun reminded me of Quake 2, nothing to ground breaking just an old school shoot 'em up with a lot of horror, i think a lot of the reasons people “didnt” like it was cause their was no multiplayer, it’s for SP junkies, like myself. And the Big Daddy’s and little sisters were simply awesome. Only one issue with the game for me, as Weebl asked, who in the world thought up bee’s as a weapon??? since when would that be usefull. id be lookin forward to the second if i could afford it
I got the collector’s edition for the first one. It was great, but I had played through System Shock 2 a few months prior to that and I was very aware of the cuts and dumbing down things they did to the gameplay of its “spiritual” successor and of course the striking similiraties in the story and “creative” ideas.
It did not help that playing it through a second time / following the “other” path, was not any different from the first time, not in any way that mattered.
Also, I did not appreciate the official announcement, a month or so after the release that there would be no modding tools, no “sdk” available.
I’m playing the demo and perhaps renting this one, before deciding if I should buy it. Multiplayer won’t count as a plus or con, but releasing modding tools definately will be considered a huge plus. I’m not holding my breath though.
Well the first one was good until the shocking plot twist, at which point it whent down an incredibly steep decline. This one looks about the same except the multiplayer, which looks like it is just tacked on, so that won’t make a difference for me.
EDIT: By the way, where did the “spiritual successor” to SS 2 come from? The games are really different, Bioshock not being an rpg at all, merely an FPS where you can get money and buy things, which is nothing new.
Yeh, I hated the twist. It made no sense.
Well, it was mentioned in some interview or preview or was used intentionally by Irrational to further promote Bioshock. I am not exactly sure, but I remember reading it maybe 2 years before it was released and got really excited about it (at that point I had only watched/played parts of System Shock 2 with friends). Personally I think that this helped a lot to increase hype for the game, but it also backfired.
The games are different but the similar plot/gameplay points are fairly obvious. (And I think this has already been discussed to death, that’s why I am not getting into more details).
It wasn’t really the twist itself, it made sense to me, it was just the turning point from when the game was enjoyable to when it just felt tedious. I don’t really know what happened, but it just collapsed until a terrible final boss fight.
Sheesh, why all the hate for one of the few decent games in 2007 ? I mean I’ve played System Shock 2 and I still love Bioshock. Me personally, I think people are too spoiled by games series like Halo that are focused too much on rushing through just turning it into a blood bath. Ok you can do that in Bioshock but the thing that’s good about it is that it puts forward a decent story with a lot of depth if you really explore it. The second looks to be no different. I’m always on the 2k forums talking with people about it and the viral site https://www.somethinginthesea.com/home.html is providing a brilliant side story. I think you should at least give a game a chance before you shoot it into the water.
I’m not looking forward to this at all. I loved Bioshock’s story, graphics, and atmosphere, but the gameplay was atrocious. I don’t think I really ever had fun playing the game (except when listening to diaries and watching cut scenes).
I loved the first one and im gonna love this one.
Thoroughly ejoyed the first. Looking forward to this one as well.
Not sure why all the negative nancys are suddenly coming out of the woodwork.
