This debate would be about what soundtrack in a movie you think best. My opinion is the Saw series.
That’s a bit open ended, isn’t it? Are you referring to any movie? Does it include musicals? Or is it a normal movie where the music is just incidental?
Original score: Empire Strikes Back or Alien Ressurection
Soundtrack consisting of songs: Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000
Mass Effect has the best soundtrack IMO
Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof.
I forgot about Blaxploitation and grindhouse shit.
If we’re talking about musicals, I’m a sucker for Albert Finney’s version of Scrooge.
Regular films where the music is just incidental (that is, the songs aren’t performed in character by the actors)? Star Wars.
I don’t see how this is open for debate, as it boils down to opinion, and not much more.
Braveheart has a pretty good soundtrack though. And The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly trilogy.
Burb: We could debate the rationality of musicals? A whole bunch of people in the town suddenly dropping what they’re doing to join in on an impromptu song that everyone suddenly knows by heart, finally singing to the sky at climax/ending of the song?
Holding a close second in the form of musicals in my mind is 1776, starring William Daniels and Howard da Silva.
Empire Strikes Back has by far some of the best classical tracks. There were at least 3 variations of Imperial March in it and I loved them all.
The Beast also had a very haunting soundtrack, which I think gave the entire film a very alien feel, reflecting how out-of-place the Russian tankers were. I especially like the way the main theme was used at the start played over footage of a peaceful Afghan village, before being cut off sharply by the cannon blast of a T-54.
On haunting soundtracks I’ll add in Donnie Darko, which ranged from very disturbing pieces to light hearted tracks, and even combined the two with Under The Milkway Tonight being played during the party scene.
I have to say The Warriors as well, purely because it’s one of my favourite films. Every song fit perfectly with the 1970s feel, and the electronic/rock tracks truely gave the movie a unique atmosphere. One never grows tired of the Baseball Furies scene.
Finally a mention for the best used single song I’m saying Sgt. Mackenzie as used in We Were Soldiers. Not the best film, but the way that music was blended with the helicopter shots gave it a very solemn tone.
Well I personally think that the soundtrack from John Carpenter’s horror movie “The Thing” is the best movie soundtrack ever made. Ennio Morricone (the composer) manages to perfectly put the paranoia and dark atmosphere in the music, it’s a true masterpiece.
I think most of us can remember the alien spider head scene:
IMO A New Hope’s (first star wars Circa 1977) OST was pretty okay
you had the Cantina Band Music and the song peter hums while shooting at TIE fighters in Blue Harvest
I forgot to mention that any music composed by Ennio Morricone is epic. :fffuuu:
Billy Elliot or Blues Brothers
Why is this in the debate area? This is a simple ‘name your fav’ thread which would normally go in the ladies club. amirite?
If you’ve ever seen They Live, there’s only one song on the entire soundtrack, and it lasts the entirety of the film.
Godfather
this is a cover by muse of one of morricone’s masterpieces

here’s the original:
Phantasm… or, if we’re being serious, Blade Runner :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-HtAFZMDqI&feature=player_embedded
Blade Runner had good songs, but as an overall soundtrack I found it lacking in a few areas.
