Battletech

After playing me some good olde’ MW4, came to me the idea of a thread exclusively for those who think alike in Battlet(m)ech appreciation.
All hail the late FASA!

A few questions to start the thread rolling.

  1. What was your first encounter with Battlemech universe?
  2. Which of Mech-piloting games is your fav?
  3. Favourite chassis. You can choose several designs for each tonnage class.
  4. Or did you enjoy any designs other than Mechs?
  5. Favourite armaments.
  6. What do you favor most when assembling your variant in Mechlab? Do you crank the engine revs up or do you load up on so many weapons that it could eradicate a third-world country in half a day? Jump jets and electronics or armor? Sniper or Brawler? Beam, Missile or ballistic?
  7. Inner Sphere or Clans?

    Think it’s enought for now.

I’ll go ahead and answer first:

  1. Very first? MW3, but I didn’t get to play much of it since it was 2 month before MW4 hit the streets. Apparaz it was already in development whn MW3 wasn’t even finished yet. Didn’t get to play tabletop.
  2. Mechwarrior 4 : Vengeance and Mercenaries. The first one was a majestic effort that was so rare for the time - those briefing vids, although sometimes poorly acted - were great and immersive. And the atmosphere of pure epic revenge mission. And the story actually made a lot of sense. Mercs were a pure feel good badass holywood action. Class.
  3. Light: Cougar, 35 tons

Medium: Uziel, 50 tons; Shadow Cat, 45 Tons.

Heavy: Mad Cat / Timber Wolf, 75 tons

Assault: Awesome, 80 tons; Longbow, 85 tons; Atlas (+Warlord MekTek variant), Daishi / Dire Wolf, Fafnir, Behemoth / Stone Rhino I & II, 100 tons.

  4. Overlord & Talon Dropships, Demolisher 2 tank, Shilone Bomber.
  5. LRMs, MRMs, Any sort of Gauss, Normal (red IS) Large lasers/pulse lasers, Normal PPCs and Autocannons (rotary or light/extended range preferable). Sometimes LBXes
  6. Fuck the speed and Jump jets, maximum armor and weapons. Only electronics that are absolutely required. I’ll make a fast brawler once in a while, but sniping from the top of the hill is my credo.
  7. I used to be a Clanner - but Inner Sphere kicks arse. Clans are twats and got their ass handed to them despite their mega technology.

P.S. You can use this link to look up your fav chassis.

first encounter was an arcade chassis setup in a chuck e. cheese

You mean one of these?

Fucking hell, I fucking want one, even though it’s a dumbed down version

hell yes

hell, I’d totally get one to install a fullblown MW4 w/ MekPak onboard. Even better, Get 4 in one room, connect via lan… man that would fucking rock.

Holy f… And I’ve been missing on all of these?

I feel inferior :frowning:

My first Mech game was Mechwarrior 2. Favorite is probably four though.

I was never really good at the game, but I loved it anyways. My favorite mech was probably Mauler, with tons of light balistics and SRMs.

Of course, nothing was as much fun as loading Daishi down with three long toms and Jihad bombing Ravens.

Well, loading Nova cat down with three PPCs was pretty awesome too.

Reading this now, I think I realise why I never got very far in that game… :retard:

Hell yeah, 3 long toms all the way. One of my favourite ballistics, forgot to mention.

Also, try 4 ppc Nova Cat.
Who the fuck cares, even the stock variant was shutting down after a couple shots.

But really:

Just a short trip to mechlab. I’ll see how it fares in a botmatch

I really liked Heavy Gear : )

1, MechWarrior 2 : 31st Century Combat
Loved the game, and the Archive Holoprojector got me hooked on the Battletech Universe

2, MechWarrior IV : Mercs
Now a free game available from https://www.mektek.net, although I have bought the game 3 times previously due to worn out/damaged disks.

If you’re going to download the game, check the forums first. Some people have trouble with MekTeks download program, but there are workarounds and potentially an alternative installer made by a well known and respected community member (he has only just posted the first version a few days ago and I haven’t checked it out yet).

I still play this online almost every weekend on the +PT+Sunder server.

On occasion I also play the MechWarrior : Living Legends mod for Crysis Wars. Full combined arms combat. I actually prefer being in a tank most of the time in this game though.

3, Light
Kitfox/Uller

Medium
Nova/Blackhawk, Black Lanner, Stormcrow/Ryokin

Heavy
Mad Dog/Vulture, Ebon Jaguar/Cauldron Born, Timberwolf/Madcat

Assault
Warhawk/Masakari, Kodiak, Deimos, Canis

4, Some of the tanks look great. Demolisher II and Shrek come to mind.
Also a big fan of Battle Armour like the Salamander and Gnome

5, PPC, Heavy Lasers, LBX Autocannons, Rotary Autocannons

6, Moderate speed heavy hitter with Jump Jets or “Ripper” (rapid firing) configs.

7, Clan Ghost Bear. No question.

These are models I’ve done (modelled in Wings 3D, rendered in Blender)

Mad Dog mkIV/Vulture mkIV

Ebon Jaguar/Cauldron Born (still a work in progress)

it’s been way too long to remember the series too good, anyway:

i played only mechwarrior 4 vengeance, my cd is broken though
it was pretty awesome, can’t remember the lore/story anymore, only have the name “Steiner” ringing in my head(played the german version)

favorite chassis uhhm cougar, catapult and i liked most of the 100 tonners. favorite weapon was the long tom artillery(if i remember that name right)

burning for the remake

Only it isn’t battletech :retard:
+anime transformer rollerblading mechas carrying oversized AKs are uber queer. Pledge allegiance to battletech, now

Oh and 5 Gauss Daishi sucked, especially against level 9 bots - who never miss. Devastating If you have a lance of brawlers though. But then you have to go kamikaze after ammunition is depleted.

I do remember struggling through it towards the end of the game, I think I´ll give MW4 a try since it´s easy to get now a days.

Also, I never tried it but I remember there being another mech game called hmm Slave Zero could it be?

EDIT: Just looked it up, not much of a mech game of sorts.

Have you guys seen this game?

It looks really awesome. It is developed by an indie group with like 7 people in it.

Did you just sign up here just to post a non-battletech game in a battletech game?

Just to clarify - this is a Battletech thread concerning fluff and the games in the universe, not a mecha thread. If you want to discuss gaydam anime mecha transformer stuff, do so in another thread.

I ask for this not because I’m a nazi or franchise racist (although I do love the feeling of being one, fuckers) - this is for consistency’s and thread cleanliness’ sake. Thanks.

Luciel, I suggest getting vengeance first then jumping into mercenaries/mekpaks, simply because Veng is a purer, better directed MechWarrior experience with carefully picked mech roster. Way better way to start. The later games pack more mechs, but it becomes a clusterfuck full of disney designs, especially with mech packs.

Awesome, thanks for the recom

So I got that Mtx thing, and did a restore like they guy said, but I’ve got nothing to download, is there another way to get this game?

Mtx version comes with MekPak, which I’m not a big fan of tbh. Though it should work just fine via torrent. Http download had problems though.

Just get Vengeance and Mercenaries through scene releases.

You have to get it to go online which should be automatic, although it doesn’t seem to go online for me very often.

Under “File”, hit “Offline Mode”.

Sometimes I need to leave it running for a while, sometimes overnight. Then go to “Available Games” and Mercs should be on the list. It will update to the latest version.

The alternative I mentioned is MXC (I think) which is posted in the MechWarrior 4 : Mercenaries forum. As I said, I haven’t tried it out myself yet.

You can torrent the MTX file for Mercs, copy it to the correct folder then use MTX to “Install it” if you have trouble getting it to go online (although i’ve never had to do it this way either).

MekTek does not have this:
