Because they are used illegally for all sorts of combat stuff and assassinations and shit . and kill a bunch of civilians for no reason all the fuckin time. fuck blackwater.
Because Jake Sulley says they are as he wheels onto the tarmac for the first time in the movie…
We have a winner.
I’m assuming she has a close to first generation avatar and the human features are more distinct then the current models. Either that, or it’s just a very distinct feature of hers and they decided to keep it on the avatar.
/\ FTW
I saw it last night and liked it for what it is - the launch of a franchise for 14-16 year old boys celebrated with $500 million dollars worth of fireworks.
I was entertained!
However as someone who isn’t in their target demographic, the dumbing down of the whole thing (plot, character design, dialogue) really got to me.
But whatever, that’s probably just jealousy that the most expensive CG effects ever were used in a movie for kids, rather than adults. Damn meddling kids.
Oh and also -
This whole thing - the cliche’d “dances with wolves” storyline - I’m ok with that, but why did they have to not only rip off the storyline, but also make their “alien” characters look, talk, and dress exactly like fucking native americans? Seriously, it wasn’t obvious enough without giving all of the characters mohawks and feathers in their hair?? Most dissapointing part of the movie for me.
Dude, the movie was geared to all ages…What are you smoking?
Give me a break. How old are you?
We’re all 12 here.
The film was, however, meant for all ages. You’ll find that most people over the age of 40~50 will really enjoy the movie, a mix from under 40, similar to what we have seen here, will either love it and understand the plot sucked or hate it, and then of course the girls under age 25 will mostly all hate it. (They still don’t know exactly why)
The plot didn’t “suck.” A movie with a $500million budget can afford to hire good screenwriters. The reason adults don’t like the plot is that it was specifically written to make sense to children, and it succeeded in this goal. That means it’s frustrating/repetitive to adults who don’t appreciate the kind of plot device “hand-holding” that’s necessary in kids movies.
I find it hard to believe that you guys don’t get this.
Toys R’ Us Avatar toys
Suggested age range: 6-10
You probably think “Transformers” was also meant for all ages too, right?
Yes, it was. It was able to entertain all ages. My father, mother and step dad enjoyed Avatar hands down and were blown away by the story, computer animation, and everything in between. I’ve been twice so far, the place was filled with all ages from ten to senior citizen. Both days ended the same way, standing ovations and cheers. Would you like me to apologize that there wasn’t more blood, sex, and vulgar language? Oh dear.
Read my posts before you reply! My problem with the movie isn’t that it wasn’t violent or vulgar enough, its that every part of it was made mind-numbingly simple and obvious in order to not confuse kids.
Either James Cameron has the storytelling sensibilities of an adolescent, or he intentionally dumbed down the movie to appeal to a demographic. Pick one.
No James Cameron funded this movie out of his own pocket. Does not need to earn any of it back. He has no intention to dumb it down at all and is just a poor story writer. OF COURSE IT IS LIKE THIS!
He wrote it like that so it wasn’t just geared for adults. And you saying that it was ‘dumbed down’ for the younger population, means that he excluded gore, language, and sexual content so it could achieve its PG-13 rating.
Any way, think what you will. I liked it, along with my family. All that matters to me. I simply don’t like seeing it bashed for falsities. Obviously everyone likes it because it’s achieve the number one slot and made 300 million [rounded] over the weekend. Not to mention what it will make for the next month it’s running.
I love it, I’m arguing with an adolescent boy who loves Avatar over whether or not Avatar was produced for the enjoyment of adolescent boys.
Case closed.
yes but you have to understand that everybody have to love Avatar and praise it. If you don’t you don’t understand it and etc. eg. ie… bawww…
@mattemuse
I’m in 100% agreement with you. I loved the movie as well, and I’m about to go see it again.
I apologize for wording my post incorrectly, the plot didn’t suck it was just as you said very simple. Sure the plot could have been better, thousands hate it, thousands like it. It’s the same with pretty much every movie. Good movies can have predictable plots, bad movies can have complex plots.
I don’t think so.
How is the movie “dumbed down”?
What were you expecting?
What do you mean who?
The plot was over simplified, and told in a linear manner. Were you really not able to predict the last 30 minutes of the movie? I’ll bet you that at least a quarter of the people who watched the movie were able to see what was coming from 5 or more minutes away.
i can’t speak for Blackwater, but i know a lot of guys who work for Dyncorp, and they do everything from Aviation, Security to intelligence, basically everything a military would do. I personally know a guy who works security in Dubai, a mall cop if you will, and another guy who is Paid by the US government to burn down opium fields in Afghanistan. these farms aren’t like the hippie communes in the hills of California, rather like the opium triangle in south east Asia. these facilities are heavily guarded by viscous drug lords with militias sometimes armed with Surface to air Missiles. interestingly enough, according to my friend, they’ve gotten to the point where they are not even getting out of the bird anymore, just dumping fuel across the field, then dropping thermite. these contractors don’t just work as security for CEOs and executives in the middle east, they also run their own military operations all across the globe that rival our own (US military) operations. Like a said, i can’t speak for Blackwater, but I’ve seen some of the jobs offered to my friends and even my Ex-Army brother.
who knew a film with a $387 million dollar budget with a demographic ranging from ages 6-80, wouldn’t try to franchise the shit out of it. Hollywood is a business, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that James Cameron dumbed the script on purpose, he spent like three years developing a language with a linguistics professor as well as creating a Culture completely from his imagination. The type of Movie that it is, a more complex plot would have ruined it.
it was a little too predictable at moments though, but in IMAX 3D, i couldn’t care less if the Na’vi Deity was a shitting panda monster.
