Ask an Atheist!!!

Agnosticism is not a belief system.

it’s more like once you were a catholic and then you became an atheist.

There is no in between when it comes to belief in a god.

You could have been a theist gnostic then theist agnostic then atheist agnostic but agnosticism.

I once again propose a new term: apotheism, meaning people who haven’t made up their minds.

Isn’t apotheism enlightenment to a divine level? Becoming god?

EDIT: Oh wait, I was thinking of apotheosis…

If you haven’t made up your mind to whether god exists then you are unconvinced that he exists making you an atheist.

You can easily turn that line of reasoning around: “if you haven’t made up your mind to whether god exists then you are unconvinced that he doesn’t exist making you a theist.”

It is possible to honestly have no opinion about whether or not there’s a god.

I imagine the majority of atheists here were taught about god in childhood, myself included.

Same.

Actually, religion never played any role in my life. My parents were some of the few atheists in my home town. My family outside my parents are all devout Orthodox Christians. However, my parents never said anything about their beliefs and never attempted to force anything on me. This leads me to believe they were closet atheists. (In our community, being an atheist was like being a social outcast.)

If you don’t actively believe (you haven’t made up your mind or you disbelieve), you’re an atheist because a theist is one who actively believes and an atheist is not a theist.

It’s really quite simple.

Loosing your faith doesn’t work that way that you wake up some day and realize : “hmm, after giving a serious thought, God cannot exist after all”. Becoming an atheist is a gradual process and I know there is something between. Agnosticism is a deep hope that despite all the evidences God exists, but you realize that you don’t know anything about this God. For an Agnostic those evidences are inconclusive, you believe that there may be a divine power that takes care of people, but there are equal chances that there is nothing up there. So I’m saying that there can be: Yes, No, and Maybe, and you are saying that there can be only Yes and No. Who is right?

Where your family going to Church every Sunday and were you praying before going to sleep as a child?

Agnosticism and atheism talk about two different things. Agnosticism is not some point between atheism and theism. If you don’t know if a god exists but you believe there might be, you’re an agnostic theist. If you don’t know if a god exists and you don’t believe there to be one, you’re an agnostic atheist. If you know that a god exists and you believe that one exists, then you’re a gnostic theist. If you know that a god exists but you don’t believe one exists (not sure how this works but let’s go with it), you’re a gnostic atheist.

Gnosticism/Agnosticism deals with knowledge.
Theism/Atheism deals with belief.

You either know or you don’t. You either believe or you don’t.

If you don’t care either way, you are still either believing or not, knowing or not, but some like to use the term apatheist or apagnostic.

(In the interests of full-disclosure, I repeat what I said earlier in this thread: I am an agnostic atheist. I don’t know and I don’t believe.)

I had to pray before mealtimes and at other times of the day too: my family was not religious, but my school was. I used to be Christian as well, and I’m also baptised (it was in case I ever decided to become Christian).

According to definitions:

Agnostic cannot be Atheist, because you cannot deny something that you know nothing about. Agnostic cannot be Theist, because if you are not sure if god exist, then you don’t really believe in him.

ENOUGH WITH THE SEMANTICS

just stop using those words if necessary

Ask an Atheist: Im Atheist, ask me a question NOW.

How does it feel to know you’re destined to burn in Hell for your heathenish beliefs and actions, you lost soul?

May God forgive your sins. Or else Satan will have your soul. Oh, wait, I guess you already gave your soul to him, eh?

We are going to New Jersey?
I’ve never seen a soul. Let me know where I can find one.

Well, I lol’d.

@Seba: You can absolutely deny god while admitting there’s never going to proof of his non-existence, as it’s impossible to have proof for the non-existence of something.

I’m an atheist, ask me something too xD~
