That the nukes “saved lives” is an assumption. Sure, you could say that “X, Y, or Z” could’ve happened, but those are assumptions, too. You can NOT say that “X, Y, or Z” WOULD have happened because there is absolutely know way to know that. It would assume that X would inexorably lead, without impediment, to Y and there’s no way you can say that.
Who says it would’ve taken a million deaths? And even if it did what kind of fucked up mindset justifies killing innocent men women and children instead of fighting against actual soldiers? That’s like getting back at a bully by beating the shit out of his kid.

They should’ve waited a few more years and should have learned how to dodge kamikaze attacks. After a few years, the stock of crazy Japs would’ve been depleted and no nuke would’ve been necessary.

Even after seeing that the US had the ability to nuke entire cities, meaning their army had no chance, the generals still did not want to surrender and ended up committing suicide. Civilians were being taught how to fight and commit suicide with mines by lying down in front of tanks.
The denial that at least a million would die without a show of power such as the nuke is a denial of the reality of WWII Japan.
