Ask an "Amurican"

What? Where it’s winter? Cool, man. Very cool.

I’d prefer snow over heat any day, though I know I will regret saying that if the next Ice Age happens during my lifetime (if possible, which is unlikely.)

:what:

OMG the High School here is soo lame… :frowning:

What? The hut in which the class “how to be poor” is given = lame? NO WAI.

I don’t like your comment. I was referring to advanced specific disciplines, here you don’t get to choose the disciplines you are going to have, and we don’t learn calculus, psychology, latin (we do have many classes of English, though, I had classes in both Junior High and High School). The education here is more general.

But, yes, primary and secondary education mostly sucks here. That does not apply to some good schools (like the one I went to) nor it applies to higher education. And, no, we are not a bunch of poor people at all.

How do you Ace/Fail a walking class? Refusing to show up?:brow:

Is it positive to have an “A” in walking when applying for a job?

I dunno, normally it’s the Physical Ed class mentally handicapped and such take…but they don’t really stop anyone from actually taking it…I preferred taking the team sports classes.

There is a Mountain biking class at my University I have been eying but it’s hard as hell to get into.

How’s stuff in america

Pretty sweet, other than, you know, the economy, the wars, healthcare, foreclosure rates, and a billion other pain in the asses.

How many PE credits do you need to graduate, at my high it’s like 1. I think PE is bullshit mainly because the last thing I want to do at school is work out (and it’s not even a workout), and without PE in my high I could of taken two more optional electives (1 tri. each). PE should stop at elementary, and become an elective in high school.

I hated bush, but I’m really starting to hate Obama, IDK why people are so captivated by his speeches, he’s so under qualified. Although I suppose it was either him and Biden, or McCain and Palen. McCain might have done well but I would kill myself if Palen became vice president. Imma republican and both choices scared the hell out of me before Obama was in office. WTF!

My comment was supposed to be ironic. I know we’re fucked.

^ I know, I just wanted to post those links

Reagan should have been impeached.

That makes more sense, I think…

We get to choose between Latin, Chinese, French, and Spanish, you have to take at least 2 years, it’s recommended to take 4. I also took latin in Middle School, so I’ll have 5 years of it by the time I graduate.

In my school you have to take 4 years of science. Freshman year is physics, Sophomore year is chem, Junior year is Bio, and Senior year you get to choose from any of the science classes offered - you can choose AP versions of the classes already offered, Psych/Neuro (which is also AP), Environmental Science, Astronomy, Design Tech, Disease/Forensics/Technology, Zoology of Aquatic and Terrestrial Organisms or Anatomy and Physiology. I’m taking AP physics and chem this year, so I’ll have at least 5 science credits by the time I graduate.

I don’t think Europe has AP (advanced placement)classes. They’re basically a college level class that you can take in High School. At the end of the year, you take the AP test, and if you score high enough on it, a lot of colleges let you skip the introductory class in that subject (ie Physics 101 for AP physics). There are AP classes for almost everything, English, latin, Chem, Bio, etc.

My school has 3 levels for most classes - CP is basic level, Honors is a little more challenging, and AP is really challenging. You either take one or the other, although often you’ll take the AP class after you’ve taken the Honors class rather than instead of it.

On an unrelated note, English isn’t the official language of the US - we don’t have an official language. Most states specify official languages, English in most cases, although Hawaii has both English and Hawaiian. Wikipedia says that English is the official language of 28 states.

When my sister went to High School up in Pittsburgh, her school offered Spanish, French, Latin, and German.

Down here, they offer French and Spanish. I’m currently taking Spanish, though I’d much rather learn German.

What’s the general American stance on tipping (by which I mean giving extra money to waiters etc)? A lot of your TV seems to suggest that you tip pretty much everyone all of the time.

We tip pretty much everyone at a sit down restaurant ~15% depending on their service. More if they’re a good waiter. Obviously we don’t tip at places like Burger King or other places where waiters aren’t involved. There are also places that don’t take tips.

Oh definitely. I’d much rather be taking German.
